we already have a dps pet class, a healer pet class... i guess the only thing missing is a tank pet class. XD

Beast Master is a Job I'd definitely be interested in.
I know not everyone might be happy with this, but it might require being able to summon pets that are permanently unlocked in order to be viable. Although I could imagine it might have as much in the way of options as Blue Mage might for abilities to learn.
As for "taming", I can imagine it might work similarly to the mechanic used in some leves, but via a Job ability instead of an emote. That and you probably couldn't tame something part of an event or quest that's required to be killed.
If there really is a "pet glamour system" coming so Summoners can get more summons, I can imagine this would be invaluable for Beast Master. It'd allow the player to tame anything within reason, although they'd only have "slots" for a certain number of pets active/equipped for summoning. And the "summoning" could be via a whistle call.
As for the weapon, I agree that a whip might be a good choice. It's unique and (relatively) fits the Beast Master Job. It's also kinda iconic to it. Also has good potential for debuffs to enemies, like stuns and snares, which could also help keep pets able to stay in attack range.

In my opinion, Beastmaster shouldn't be archer-based.
Instead I'd either introduce new weapon - Whip, possibly dual wielded - or make it a sword wielding "Ranger".
Beastmaster might not just have access to different types of beast, but different setups as well:
Many different single powerful beast
Several different packs of beasts (wolves, etc)
