Trouble deciding on how to update my gear

So I know we get a lot of gear questions on this thread but I'm having a lot of trouble deciding how to upgrade my gathering gear.

Now for a bit of background, During 2.x, I was never interested in gathering at all. I think during that whole period, I got maybe the HQ class quest gear for botanist/miner/fisher and the level 48 Belt. My accessories are... well appalling as I never invested to get the BiS during 2.x. Non of my gear is melded either.

Currently my Miner is 60 (yay for 90 leves... :|) - 464 Gathering, 460 Perception

Botanist is 53 - 327 Gathering, 332 Perception

and Fisher is 50 - 259 Gathering, 201 Perception

I would like to know... What kind of gear should I go for to put my foot in to the correct door for gathering? Because I would definitely like to start doing the collectable stuff for gathering but I don't think I have enough GP (Under 600 GP). Should I buy the old BiS accessories from 2.x and meld those? Should I also invest in the old forager gear also?

My fisher is definitely a cause for concern as it has the lowest stats of them all and I definitely don't know what to do with that one

Don't worry too much about gp before lvl 60. you'll get more exp turning in multiple lower rarity items than single higher rarity. The accessories, well I waited until 60 for the dragonskin stuff and never had any problems. Don't waste gil on forager gear just pick up the dhalmel leather and then serpentskin when you can. The most important stat looks like being perception so prioritise slots with that. Head,tools and feet. You'll need to hit 565 perception to do the lvl 60 btny quest. It will cost a lot of gil to get hq tools but they are worth it. Cost me a little more than a mill each for hq, but servers vary. You'll pick up plenty of gil on the way there anyway I should imagine. Rainbow bolls and flax seem to be the best option for gil atm along with selling maps. Dragon maps go for 200k on sarg.

Actually, do try to get close enough to 600 GP that you can reach it with food. Two of the level 53/54 collectible, at highest level (500+ Collectability) are worth more than four of the level 50 collectable at minimum Collectability. You cans ee this by checking the Rowena's listing under the Timers.

Of course, that's only worthwhile if you think you *can* reach that 500 Collectability on those items.
