I'm torn. On the one hand, I love Y'Shtola and would like for them to find a way to "fix" her, but at the same time if they manage to deus ex her eyesight back or otherwise find a way to keep her new ability from killing her (besides just not using it) it completely trivializes the danger of the forbidden spells. I think I'd be happier seeing her returned to normal, but I would be mildly disappointed if SE took the easy way out.

I would probably just give her a cloth that seals the ability so she can wrap it around her head. sure it renders her completely blind, but it's a better than the other option...

Matoya was truly concerned considering the spell she used was very dangerous. We can also assume that her powerful spells also use some hint of her LF too. Talk about commitment.
Shes not blinded. You can see that how she focus on us when we see her the first time awake. She also tells you that she CAN see the aether flow not "i see you through the aetherflow". They would need to redo y'shtola everytime we meet her because lifeforce draining usually goes hand in hand with rapid aging. i dont think they want to throw away such a precious character easily *is secretly in love with shtola*

Since going into the life stream Y'Shtola is more like an elemental now than man. Kan-E-Senna said the main difference between elementals and man is that man percievse the world by their senses and elementals percieve the world through aether. I'm guessing that Y'Shtola got transformed into an elemental as a result of using a forbidden spell and going into the life stream.

No, she's blind, at least in the traditional sense. Matoya point blank asks when "the light faded from [her] eyes" and warns her that her method of compensation will drain her lifeforce. They never really explained how her new aether sense works, but it's unlikely that she perceives the world normally anymore. Instead she probably has something more akin to sonar or echolocation than actual sight.

Ah, good foreshadow there. Hm, it could also be the elemental s doing as well. Would make sense how she all of a sudden could control the elements like she did when defending Brayflox.

I made this connection as well and wonder what significance it might have going forward. It's also possible that the spell was not the cause of her change but rather the elementals either did it deliberately as a 'cost' for them retrieving her or they accidentally put her back together wrong. Hopefully we'll find out eventually as the amount of attention the change has gotten in the script suggests it may have a narrative purpose beyond just being a cost for the use of dangerous magic.

I'm surprised more people haven't questioned the fact Thancred didn't return with her though. Was he not caught up in the same spell? Did he perhaps end up where Y'shtola originally intended to teleport to?

I was surprised that no one else mentioned him, as well. I guess we can assume that she succesfully transported him to... somehwere? She herself got lost in the Lifestream, so I wouldn't be surprised in Thancred ended up somewhere besides the intended place (if she even meant to go somewhere outside of "out from this pile of rubble").

I'm guessing that through the patch cycles we'll discover her blindness and will have to kill some sort of dark being, possibly (probably) named Astos who has developed or is guarding a crystal eye from which she can regain her eyesight. Or at least something similar to such a endeavor.

Is no one else drawing parallels from a wide-brimmed-hat wearing witch, living in a cave with sweeping brooms that partially talk backwards, conveniently named Matoya and a case of curing blindness?

Remember Sylphie in the Conjurer class quests? All Y'shtola needs to do is find an external source to draw power from instead of using her own life, and hey, guess what? She's a Conjurer.

I suspect Matoya's Eye will be involved.
