[QUOTE=Esk;351031but I cant be sure till we get up close to them.

    [/QUOTE]

go to the lower section of gridania adv guild and wait. you'll see an airship pull up and leave already. been doing it for months now.

they could use a lil more detailing in the basic concept design/art. some engraving along the sides, perhaps some form of identification on the sides of the "balloons" like how busses have route numbers ect, perhaps a flag and a few nice lanterns that would show other airships they're approaching another in the night sky.

these sort of details seem to have been slightly overlooked. but maybe once they're ridable asthetic changes will be made to the exterior of the airships too

Yes, aesthetic details! ^_^ thus why i added the FF7 airship cause the metal plate lines and bolts count as details too.
Interesting opinions, seems like the overall answer is basically 'lets see where it goes from here' meaning pple do expect a bit more but still in the waiting.

much thanks to those who put in the effort to make it a normal discussion and others that went their way to correct pple who didnt understand \o/

Wait are you trying to say they did something with less effort than in previous FF titles? I'm shocked I tell you shocked.

@ Secret_reeve Aye I've seen it, but you cant get close up really, and I was hoping the ones in game atm are place holders with less detail, but we will see soon.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with FFXIV airships.

They were designed the way they are to be in accordance with the lore and general gameworld design. If you stop respecting lore, then you get CON=WHM (lol fail). And then the game starts to become inconsistent and gimmicky.

    They look fine to me:

FFXIV city states only just began airship travel, but their naval ships are much more sophisticated. If they had fleets of huge airships, garlean empire wouldn't seem like such a great threat to the game, since huge overpowering airships are their specialty and intimidation-factor.

For the 2nd time, no ones talking about the sophistication or the technology of the ships nor the shapes of the boat, but the actual aesthetics/designs that are added to bring the product out, something that SE is well known for in almost every one of their games. Because atm even a harvesters tool has more detail on it.

some pple can see the diff.
some are like moms that think every blue color jeans is the same design >.>

Okay, but if I try to imagine anything that is the same size as the FFXIV airships but of greater complexity, it all looks like complete rubbish, and I think they managed to achieve a nice design in FFXIV given the limitations on technology. I think their choice of intersecting lines and shapes and the building materials were artistically wise ones, and attuned with the aesthetic of the rest of the gameworld.

its not so much the size of the fleet that makes the garleans a huge thread. its the armourment and weapon systems on thier airships that scares the bajeepers outta people.

look at it this way, a flock of birds arent scary, they can be shot out of the sky. bu give those birds shields and lasers on thier heads when all you have is a american civil war musket, those birds suddenly become a damn sight scarier lol

Given the vastly decreased size I don't see a problem with the more austere design. In FFXI Airships were available to the aristocracy, which is why you needed to be given access after services rendered to the archduke of Jeuno. Airships in Eorzea seem alot more prevalent... it wouldn't make sense for them all to be gilt to the hilts.
