I truly enjoying gathering and crafting. 3.1 fix red scrips of crafting big time. You still get 9 tokens but at least you get to craft three times more.
What is lacking is relevant recipes for war/magic. Right now it feels that I'm crafting for crafters....
So crafting and gathering was only fun when it required no effort? I still think it's fun.
How is it fun to spend hours farming materials to level crafting just 1 level? It requires to much farming of mobs and unspoiled nodes, and that is just for leveling... Leveling should be easy the star crafting should be hard..not both insanely boring.
Buy items from NPC, give them your grand company, earn many exp.
It is easy to level a DoH class.
I think your doing something wrong. Every week you get 42 leves. Thats enough for easily 4-5 levels. It takes roughly 2-3 hours to do those leves gathering the mats yourself, even less buying off market board.
my only issues with DOH and DOL is RNG , leveling is boring as hell , u learn nothing , u dont even have to craft anything ~~ at the end u gonna need to get/buy gear and put materias on it to start able to craft , the system isnt fun and isnt rewarding , a simple and fun crafting is what make ppl happy.
Oh dont forget being "forced" to level all the crafts to 50 for the crossclass skills...lame to say the least.
i have all crafts and gathering classes to 60 and yet i have to find something i need those for, not sure why do you even need crafting in this game. Maybe for furnitures and housing? Culinary and Alchemist are the only useful ones. rest is totally worthless considering all your gear comes from raid/instances. This is the most shortcoming from SE. Not the actual system, but the fact that its useless to craft anything. Oh.. glamour yeah. lol.
And there lies the problem i HAVE to buy mats off the MB as some of my leveling crafts require other class items, so then i got a choice pay the absurd prices or level up the other class to get the item, which then requires another class in order to level and it turns into a cascade effect where you require to level up all crafting classes together, rather then 1 by 1 like you could before.
I dont mind it takes longer or the recipes are a bit more challenging, i hate how leather worker is pure mob farming now and you spend 10-15 mins farming just enough mats for say 1-2 leathers.
The economy on lich has been ruined by monopolizing of the marketboard, before i could make stuff and sell it...now i cant do that because nothing sells no one will pay the insane prices for the class only items...
If they made it so the lv 60 and 60 star crafting required the other class items rather then leveling up items id be happier, but instead i need tons of holy water from alchemy which is alot of money on lich...then suddenly you find you just suck 500-1mil into mats alone for leveling...and the only real way to make money in game is crafting..
Its catch 22.

Use your retainers ventures to farm stuff for crafting, it helps a lot. Also levequest are crazy good. You dont expect to bring 4 crafts from 50 to 60 in one day do you? takes a bit, but honestly i just spammed leves/ventures and it went pretty quck. Didnt spend much, Doing leves with HQ items (which some u can buy the ingredients from MB and craft HQ on ur own) spent like 100k per level. Farming 100k gils in game is joke.
