Its an artist's rendition of how a compound bow would have worked had they been around when swords and shields were; The four strings act as added tension for more velocity. It transforms into a more compact size for easier transport much like the mining axe.

I'm calling semantics on this one. The pickaxe is not "transformable," it's collapsible. I feel like Bayohne knows the difference, or at least would have said, "transformable, much like a pickaxe" so we could make fun of him heartily that we're glad he's not on the localization team.
