The main point of bringing up the scythe bit though: If it is true then jobs won't necessarily be locked into the weapons of the jobs they come from. This would support the bowharp being a new weapon variant.

the blade is too short to be a scythe, and while that could be a perspective issue, look at the big picture. No class currently out would use a scythe, If they made any job get scythe, the current WS animations wouldnt make sense. many of dragoons are pericing, the axe animations could come close, but still a rough fit.Right but even with that, it's still a scythe blade.
Scythe
Adding a spike to the top and bottom doesn't really make it less of a scythe blade shape.
dragon knight is a confirmed job.
its a long pole like weapon, scythe, lance halbeard whatever its called its going to be the extension of the lancer class, and its going to be weilded like a polearm.
unless...
that is a botanist gone mad, then i could see it as a scythe...
the bow harp is an ancient descendent of the boombox

i am sure it is lancer, i also think it will be a dragon knight. the result however i think will be a dark knight lancer hybrid with a scythe.the blade is too short to be a scythe, and while that could be a perspective issue, look at the big picture. might i add that i didnt think that archer would be bard and then they give us the bowharp, so i can be wrong. that's just what i think given the info that's out right now.
I mentioned this elsewhere, but if they have new weapons they would need a lot to cover the level 20+ range jobs are supposed to be available. one at least every 5 levels, so 49 weapons, which is more than we have seen developed in since the game came out.
It would also invalidate all the gear outside of it. If you have to eq a bowharp, or a scythe to be a dragoon or bard, then it makes all gear out there fairly useless, except for MAYBE soloing. It really would make jobs into whole new classes almost, rather than specialisations, as well as killing all weapons in existence before jobs.
and the 49 number just counts 1 weapon every 5 levels, with no variation in stats like we have now ( one knuckle in a range for acc, one for crit etc)
Sorry I'm with the OP on this one, there is no harp on the end of that bow.
Does this mean we will have bow-flutes as well. Or maybe we will use flutes as arrows?
I'm not saying it's a good idea or not, I'm just saying that if that is a scythe then that is the reality of the job system.I mentioned this elsewhere, but if they have new weapons they would need a lot to cover the level 20+ range jobs are supposed to be available. one at least every 5 levels, so 49 weapons, which is more than we have seen developed in since the game came out.

There are some things we don't know though (unless I'm mistaken which is possible):
*We don't know if you can level up the class associated with a job while using the job. We know that jobs essentially don't have levels but depend on the class it comes from. If this is true then you would be forced to use the class to level up.
*We don't know if jobs get their own specific weapon types. This was mostly speculation on the "classes = weapons" assumption but if jobs do get their own weapon types then that throws that entirely out the window.
*We don't know how you'll acquire these weapons. I know they mentioned that there will be quests and whatnot involved in the progression of jobs so maybe there is a set number of these weapons and you get them from progressing in this manner.
*We don't know if jobs can use more than one weapon type. I mean they're not classes and thus they are not weapon types. It wouldn't be hard for them to program a different weapon types to be usable by the same class.
they said somewhere way back, that your job class would be equal to your level on the main class, they could change it, but this is what they said. if you are a 50 glad you are a 50pld. there was some uproar because some people wanted to relevel classes.I'm not saying it's a good idea or not, I'm just saying that if that is a scythe then that is the reality of the job system.

Im not against jobs having special weapon types, but to be honest it seems unlikely. it would mean that the work they put into the class specific weaponskills animations was semi wasted. I mean if you look at doom spike, it would make no sense with a scythe. But really it would mean they did a whoooolllle lot of work on jobs, or plan too which, i dunno doesnt seem like how they work so far, most of the things we have seen have been in game or previously designed stuff.
I just dont see it based on what they have told us. Though i wouldnt complain if jobs had more weapon options. It could be pretty cool. but it doesnt seem likely
Even if this is the case, and we get multiple and new weapon types, i still say that image right there be a polearm.
