I can tell you, leveling as a machinist is definitely more dangerous. Relatively low dps + no self healing/damage protection skills whatsoever = lose half health by the time you defeat one enemy and don't even try to face two.

Dragoon is the same way... and you end up getting a whopping 700-800 XP (with food bonus!) for killing said single mob.

Meanwhile Miners and Botanists get about 2000-3000 XP for one swing of the pickaxe or scythe.

Come, join the FATE zerg with us...

Really? I actually find fighting as my dragoon a lot easier. It's sturdier, has more HP and higher defense stats, and I can cross class a crapload of tanking/self healing skills. And stuff tends to die a lot quicker because you do more damage, so a shorter time in which you take damage, too.

And yeah, just killing random mobs for leveling is not the way to go. FATEs for everyone!

Leveling is, never was, and never will be "hard". What you're wanting is it to be monotonous, tedious, and no less than a chore unless you sit in a piss boring FATE group all day.
I wonder why they even add leveling if it should be that boring.
    Wasted resources!
    It's terrible, sigh.

That's the only challenge in quests, currently. Find the person you have to speak to.

Whoever came up with this idea needs to be fired. There is nothing fun nor challenging about having to play where's waldo with npc's. It's a needless time sink in a game already full of needless time sinks.

Pull 2, drop Bishop Turret and let it tank the add.
My chocobo is out in healer mode permanently while i'm questing. I even get EXP chains when quest mobs are close together.

As a MCH, takes me 20 - 30 seconds to kill a mob my level (Choco doesnt attack at all) so i really do think its a case of PEBKAC

Ah, I didn't think a turret could take that, but if it can that might work. Thanks for telling me (though the insult at the end was really rather unnecessary).

It wasn't necessary to insult you, apologies.

Make sure you're getting HQ gear from the MBs or Side Quests rather than buying the NQ vendor stuff. For catching up after you hit 50, theyre fine for a time, but you really do need the HQ stuff.
Also, Do not be conservative with your cooldowns (RS, BfB, Reload, QReload, HE, Wildfire, Reassemble -EVERYTHING-) Short cooldowns let you have a buff up for every mob you face, significantly boosting your kill times.

I'm sure some(most) of the MCH community thus far would disagree with me, but Gauss Barrel is best for soloing. Auto Attacks add up in the course of a long fight, but in short sharp mob kills, the 20% bonus damage from the Barrel trumps it by far.
Anecdotally, I can kill any like-level mob in less than 30 seconds. If your gear is up to date and HQ, you should be fine.
