    Skill bloat and fun factor

Am I the only one that finds it fun to have skills that have more of a impact, but fewer?

If we get too many skills, I would find combat to be tedious. I don't want to feel like that, but if what I heard is true, It is bad, and I don't understand why it has to be like this.

This game is really starting to suffer from skill bloat. I have a ton of keybinds on my summoner and would love to have a half dozen fewer so I could focus more on the fight and less on the skills.

    I agree.

One of the better things GW2 did was limit the amount of abilities you actually used in combat.
While I don't want to see FFXIV stripped down to such levels, I do believe that some ability culling(by introducing superior alternatives, cutting underwhelming ones) is in order for the next expansion.
I actually feel like they could do that already, like redesigning Ruin III to be a proper replacement to Ruin (1).

Just freeing up a few slots for every class/job like that will go a long way in preventing skill bloat.

    Look no further than machinist:

#1: Wildfire - Literally does nothing of value
#2: Rend mind - literally does nothing of value
#3: Dismantle- counterpart of rend mind that is useless as well (90s cooldown, shared cooldown on both, 10s duration for a 5% debuff. Lmfao please) OH AND THESE ARE 50+ ABILITIES TOO.
#4: Silence + stun on a shared cooldown timer, obviously one is useless out of the two.
#5: Hotshot that adds a 5% buff on damage we alone deal... whereas we can easily hit far harder than that buff gives us just by spamming our level 1 fundamental combo ability.

I was hoping skills would replace our existing ones, not add on top of them. was not to be

I preordered the Addon a long time ago, but can't bring myself to level anything even after a week

Seems i really can't get into any class, ofc i'm not 60 yet with anything but with Dragoon for example i already have to use like 16 skills @50
But i think the rotation is really fun even if i already find that kind of bloated..

But what does the addon do? add even more skills... looking forward to that is no fun view.
Passives that procc existing skills, or ability enhancing skills would've been much more fun in my opinion.

I get rotations down really easy and also have a mouse with 12 side buttons i can use, but having to use all of them all the time.. really weird^^

i would be fine with 3-5 Rotational "spam" skills, 2-4 proccs, 2-4 cooldowns, 2-4 situational skills, 2 aoe's.

With Dragoon you just have to press all those buttons in an order most of the time, it's like playing piano.

Ability Bloat is what you get when you add abilities for the sake of adding abilities - prime examples of unnecessary skills:

Ruin III - Pretty much useless outside of DWT in Group PvE. You use it when in DWT. DWT could just as well increase Ruin damage while it is active.
30 second DoTs - Most classes have one of them, but why exactly? To press an additional button every 30 seconds and fill a trait slot? They virtually serve no purpose, and even add 0 complexity (Bio II + Bane being an exclusion)
Hotshot - Same Story as the 30 sec DoTs. Pressing a different buttong every 30 seconds hardly is enganging.

    And the best of all:

Fell Cleave and Decimate - Just have Deliverance alter Steel Cyclone and Inner Beast - the same way as it is done for Equilibrium. There is virtually no reason for these two spells to even exist. (This would save you from having to put dumb hotbar change macros behind Deliverance and Defiance)

My main gripe with skill bloat is with ogcds like Blunt Arrow, Leg Sweep and so on. I understand there could be need of silences, stuns, knockbacks but did we really need to use them in rotation because they have potency?

MCH are already flamed because they are using Blank for dps (and i would do the same).

Yoshida said they were implementing a way to counter skill bloat awhile ago but I haven't heard anything else about it since.

The more keybinds the better. I'd get bored otherwise.
