I love how people like to say "Keyboard and Mouse" is better than gamepad, when I read this thread...
With a gamepad, i can look in a direction, move in another direction, while casting any of my 32 quick access ability without the need to look at my hand, ever.
And i can easily add 16 more short cut with one switch if needed (for really low needed skill, target number or some macro for asking some regen)

But I do agree that if they add more skills, without new optimisation, it will become a problem. They could (should have) add more traits that group some skill or review/simplify the combo system to use less buttons (like : 3 different combo ? then 3 button instead of 6 if combo are : 1-2-3, 1-4-5, 1-4-6)
And I agree that making macro a bit better to use (for said combo for exemple) would help a lot.

I have personally done away with using CTRL and SHIFT mostly. I have key bound the following instead, and things seem to be much less annoying because of it.

    F1 to F5 = Buffs
R = Proc. Ability (Reprisal, Bloodletter, etc)
    F, G, V, T, Y = Misc
    ` = Sprint or Provoke
    CTRL + M3 = Stance(s)

Works for me in any case. <.<

I don't use shifts anymore, either. I have written macros that rewrite my bars depending on stance and what I want to do in the fight. It may not work for a job like Dragoon where there just *might* be a little room to trim some things out (*ducks*) but it's worked great for warrior.

As far as using a controller - I used one exclusively in XI but just can't get it here. I use a G600 mouse (like the Naga) and now that I have access to a numberpad on one hand and all my personal binds to letters on the other, I just can't see how a controller is superior. And that's coming from someone who argued vehemently about the abilities of controller playing users in XI. I don't like the cross bar. I don't like how it activates. I'd probably like it better if it worked like the macro palette did (you press a trigger to activate it, then when you hit an ability it deactivates again) but there's no way to make it do that (it either stays activated until you turn it off or you have to uncomfortably hold the trigger). It is my hope that they will release a dev kit and let us make adjustments to the UI and then I might find some time to change these things, but until then... I'll stick to this method in which I can also look in any direction, move in another, and activate abilities. That's not something that's exclusive to controller users, you know.

Really to have many abilities at your disposal you will just have more options with a keyboard and mouse.

I can tell ya'll haven't read the whole thread (though it is 15 pages). In at least three posts I've praised how Warrior is played and setup

I can handle the new abilities, my frustration is with how much time it will take. I redid my keybinds and spent hours sitting in front a target dummy practicing the new rotations. I have it nearly down pact now, but after I realized I had spent about 2 hours working in the new abilities - NOT PLAYING THE GAME - I realized I wasn't having fun. And when I wasn't having fun I logged off and started playing something else. And then I decided I'd tell SE about my experience.

Having a high complexity and skill ceiling just for the sake of having things to press does not mean it's good design, and I don't think the new abilities add to the dragoon class.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I think they did Warrior perfectly - the rotations aren't complex but you change what rotations you use based on the situation ie. defiance on or off, so your role is still engaging and can change (turn defiance off when not tanking but when adds pop up that you need to grab you turn it on and the skills you're using changes). That's good design. 50 abilities to use? Sure, as long as you don't need to use more than 30 in a certain situation. Dragoon uses nearly all abilities in all situations. That's ability bloat and bad design, and if I have to spend an entire night of playtime practicing a rotation when all they added was 5 new abilities...shouldn't that say something?

That's basically because you, yourself, decided to traumatize doing rotations and planning stuff just to max out and stuff. It's not SE's fault, neither a design fault. Most of player database don't even care and practice hours in dummies for seeking for the perfect rotation( They don't even care in do averagely good in duty finder...) They just enjoy the game and go... Even I myself don't even bother planning rotations and ****. I just go with the flow and, with the pass of the days i notice what I repeat in optimal conditions and wonder it, no need to suffer in dummies.

Well, I always did the same when learning my classes. Did I go to the forum to seek the 'optimal' rotation? Or trained in dummies? Nay... Do I suck because that? Nay.... To be totally honest, it's a joke to know how to use well your classes, that's why I love to use them all, because just using one would become at certain point too boring... The management is a joke. You don't really need to try hard in dummies and practice your rotation, going to dungeon and knowing when to use what is all you need, practice will make you realize the combinations you tend to repeat and how to make them better if that could even be possible.

TL,DR: FFXIV is goddam easy, why do you care about a few more of skills that are even yet easier to include than previous? No need to train, no need to 'stop gaming' because you have to check rotation and change hotbars and stuff.
