This was a pretty sweet lore dump for certain monsters, but one of them was an enemy we'd been wondering about since we saw it in the Dungeon trailer. So, after running through the dungeon and encountering a certain construct and reading their data entry...

...I guess we know how the Ixal came to be. They were initialy Allagan creations designed to perform maintenance, and called Ixsalion. They suffered from weakness to the elements, and were prone to genetic degeneration, I think was the word used. That would explain why they lost their wings and can no longer fly, and why they are excellent craftsmen. Most likely they escaped from the Floating Continent when the security systems of Azys Lla began to fail.

So, does this mean that Azys Lla is their fabled Ayatlan? If so...I hope they never get there. Damn Allagans messing around with nature.

For example, the Guidance Node tells you that a particular dragon managed to get free of its cage when the systems failed 2369 years ago--correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that around the time of another Era Calamity? It makes me think the Allagans caught another child of Midgardsormr for a time.

The island also serves to emphasize how big into gene splicing, cloning and all around genetic tomfoolery they were. Without any regard to the life of the test subjects. However, it surprised me that after 5000 years, the abominations still possess speech skills long enough to cry about the pain of death.

Another thing. If I am perceiving the hunting node correctly, it appears that Allagans could have also created Miqo'te. At the end of the quest, it mentions that next weeks hunt is three Miqo'te.

Actually, on my Hyur alt it mentioned how next week's hunt was three Hyur, so that's just based on your character's race.

My favorite part was when we just left the Empire there to establish a foothold to seize the entire continent and all its technology. Wasn't a glorified solar power plant so dangerous that it's de facto operator had to seal himself inside to keep it from maybe being used by the people of the present? Yet, somehow, the Allagan Museum of "This is How All Our Tech Works" isn't an immediate threat?

Did you miss where we kicked that legion's legatus's butt and he had to flee from his injuries? Or the part where we beat a fair number of his soldiers? I'm fairly certain that the soldiers still standing there more represent the continued danger the Garleans present, more than they represent the Garleans actually being on Azys Lla.

He... didn't really seem that beaten to me, no. I suspect we'll fight him as the end boss of the Gration in a major patch or two.

Varis, however, is also aboard, and perfectly fine.
