The big thing that makes a lot of players instantly love Matoya is that she's one of the very first NPCs you meet in the first Final Fantasy, and the theme song that plays in her cave is a remixed version of the one from FF1. So for a lot of us, it's nostalgia mixed with her relationship with Y'shtola, and the frogs and brooms.

Just did the quest, omg...I did not see that coming.
He was so sweet to me too. I DUNNO it just makes me so sad how he did all he could for us...
and people on here thought he'd turn against you, but in the end, he was always by your side and welcoming...

FF1 was FF1 in America. The confused ones were 2 - 6. They skipped 2 and 3 for America, so when we first got Final Fantasy IV it came out as Final Fantasy II. They then skipped 5, so when we got Final Fantasy VI it was called Final Fantasy III.

Matoya was a witch in FF1 who was important for a fairly early plot, and her brooms taught players how to open up the world map by speaking in backwards sentences, which is why the brooms in FFXIV speak backwards sometimes.

Disagree with that Estinien comment. He was far more developed and interesting than I thought he would be. While his fate wasn't all that unexpected, it was a bit surprising to me that it wasn't due to a lust for power or anything like that.

Far as the topic goes its hard for me to pick one character. The HW cast was 100 times better than what we had in ARR. Hopefully the scions can be salvaged into interesting characters(they're not imo), and it's possible since I think Alphinaud came a long way. Y'shtola was a little better this time around but she was still was on the lower end of interesting characters for me(her master eclipsed her in a short amount of time).

I guess i'll go with Haurcherfant!

Worst is that younger son of House Fortemps, he's such an idiot. Gets captured and cries like a baby then he tries to say how he was awesome because of it. It was entertaining watching him fail so much but it also made me cringe.

This dude was one of the Few that Had our backs no matter what. He was that High Spirit honorable best friend that you would enjoy being around even though you think he should bring it down a bit. That dude who would speak and you would just look to him like >.> and "dork" would come to mind, but if there was any kind of person that was worth fighting and saving the realm for....it was this dude. In 3.0 You made some choices where Most would think you're crazy off the bat, and it did cross his mind because of the situation for a mere instant...but you two just looked at each other mid chaos and He already knew what was up and had your back...

It Shattered a Huge Portion of me After Saving Ser Aymeric. Saving one homeboy only to Lose another...I didn't get Sad. Sadness would have been a Time Waster. I skipped straight to seeing Red when Haurchefant Sacrificed himself to save us like a Boss. It no longer was about Stopping the Archbishop and saving the realm...It became about Tearing Ser Zephirin apart.

Shit got real because of this dude nuff said. Im like " Yo that dungeon was Sweet! this is a Cool " Game ". Lets see how this plays ounooooooooooooo!!!! Didnt even finish the sentence correctly. Transitioned instantly into saying No.

Best: Honestly I love a lot of characters but especially the elves-Ysayle, Haurchefant, Alphinaud and Estinien. Three of them were my companions in the MSQ and I grew attached. And Haurchefant is Haurchefant. How can anyone not like the guy? I had a strong suspicion about what would happen to him but it still got me right in the heart.

Worst: Speaking of hearts, there will always be a place in mine for moogles. They are so fuzzy and cute. But if I see another one with an exclamation point over his pom-pom I will breathe fire.

I'm also confused about why everyone is putting Estinien down as a choice since he's technically not an npc introduced in Heavensward and has been in the game since 2.0.
