Error when trying to patch, steam version

Everytime I try to patch the game, the download stops at about 500-1100mb and I get an error message saying "Unable to download patch files. [30413] [20496]"
I have already tried several fixes, including:
    • Disabling anti-virus/firewall
    • Updating IE and adding the FFXIV website to trusted sites
    • Running the game's executable as both an admin and in compatibility mode
    • Re-installing the game via steam
    • Downloading my friend's game files and attempting to use them (The game works fine for him)
    • Deleting the patch files within the FFXIV directory.
I am now completely out of ideas and cannot find any other suggestions online, yet the game will still not patch.

Ok. You used "every time" in your post. So I can say it happens to you not only when you are trying to update to Heavesward, right? I had similar problem trying to update to HW at "hard servers times" when zillions were going to do the same and all I saw was the error every now and then, so I justs used the torrent link some good guys were seeding. But we are talking of "every time" now and all I could advise is to try using wired connection in case you are using wireless one. I heard it solved your problem for many users around the globe.

I'm already using a wired connection, but thanks anyway. Also, I feel I should point out I last played in 2.5 and this is a completely new install, as I un-installed the game when I last stopped playing.

Okay, I've managed to download all of the patches except for 101 mb of the last patch, which wont download.

What did I do to deserve this?

I was getting those errors too some time ago. From what I learned those might be caused of different soft conflicts, like u have loads of MV C++ stuff installed, several installations of .NET etc etc. I tried to install FFXI with all the expansions and it crashed with error while installing some old DX version. It completely KILLED my system, nothing helped, BOSD every now and then. I simply reinstalled Windows - no launcher problems have been spotted for 5 monthes so far. In short - the less garbage installed, the better. Not very useful I know, but internets are helpless against those kinda errors, so windows reinstalling is the only solution I know.
