    Hunts need to be more challenging. Spawn adds that heal, etc. Crazy that new HW S ranks dont even survive for 1 minute. Old S ranks barely last 20s.

    I've been giving the hunt a lot of thought lately, due to its prominence whenever they come out with new content. I realize the devs are no longer looking at this thread, but I'm going to put this out there anyway...


    The current system is useless as f**k. If you want to gate content behind something like the hunt, make the hunt an actual event, rather than zerg content that pisses people off. There's already a decent system in place to do this, it would just take some adjustments.

    The daily hunt bills are perfect, and there should be more of this. Gives you something to do every day that increases your progress towards the goal of gearing up your character. However we still have these A and S rank hunts that people kill in under 10 seconds to the chorus of a hundred people screaming "TOO SOON!". Much like how the B rank hunts are now a 5 second spawn and a weekly bill, something similar could be done with A's and S's. So here's my proposal:

    B rank hunts become a daily hunt for a large number of seals, rather than a weekly. The difficulty of B's is perfect, tough enough that you might want someone else around, but it's not really necessary. Totally soloable. They respawn in 5 seconds, so anyone who needs them can hunt them down and kill them. People who are "Late to the party" merely have to go find it again. Most people hunting B's will wait a few minutes for the 2 or 3 other people in the zone who need to kill to arrive, and there's almost never any bad blood over these.

    A rank hunts become a weekly target pulled off the hunt board, just like B's are now. A's should be tuned to be a challenge for a team of 4, with more hit points rather than dealing more damage (This would eliminate the NEED to have a tank, though a tank would certainly make it easier. Since it's open-world, most people have a tank class available anyway). A rank mobs would be spawned and locked to the team that spawns it by doing something like lighting a series of torches (Example) in the 4 corners of the zone, requiring that you have at least 4 people. An A rank hunt mob would not be able to be spawned as long as that A rank is currently active, and the currently spawned mob would despawn after a reasonable time has elapsed to prevent people from spawning it and leaving, blocking others from spawning it.

    S rank hunt mobs would also be a weekly bill that you get from the board, but tuned for a party of 8. Similar methods that are currently used to spawn the S rank mobs would be used, but the chance of spawning it would be much higher to prevent a build-up of people trying to spawn one mob, then 10 teams zerging it down (As we have now). S ranks would also be locked to the team that spawns it, just like A's are.

    This would allow the more careful gating of gear upgrades by SE (I saw someone running around in full 180 on day one of early access on Behemoth...) and would virtually eliminate the toxicity of the community in regards to hunts. Yet at the same time, it allows the same feeling of it actually being a hunt, rather than an instance with a boss.

    But I tend to have unpopular opinions. :P

    I actually like these ideas. Currently, I refuse to do A and S rank hunts. It's just too much of a headache. Thsee options would allow me to join up with my FC and take down hunts at my own pace instead of sitting there waiting for a hunt to spawn and rushing as fast as I can to a corpse...

    Wow people are still here complaining... guys you only need 2400 seals for one class (not counting the weapon), just do your dailies and Alexander over 2 weeks and you'll be maxed out.

    I was done with my hunt grind last week, being lazy and behold! My dragoon was fully ready to destroy Alexander, and now my 180 becomes useless... Hunts are a lower alternative, just dont overdue them and start a crisis for every damn mark you dont get in time.

    You dont even NEED to upgrade your gear to 180 to get in Alexander!!

    I've been a member of gw since, probably, before 14 even came out. I run (and put a lot of work in to maintaining) one of the most active Hunt linkshells on my server. I fill my LS list with other hunt LS's for the sole purpose of networking to- You know, I shouldn't even bother. You've made up your mind.

    I don't think people care about hunts staying in the game, if there are other options to acquire the same items. The problem is Hunts are a good idea but poorly implemented. Basically it's content that's being abused and no one really gets to enjoy the hunts as intended to be experienced. S ranks should be challenging like HNMs were in FFXI without the gross spawn windows. Instead we have ridiculously easy content with terrible spawn windows. It's not really a complaint so much as asking for a few more options. Why don't Treasure maps allow you to fight unique mobs like the hunts and why don't they give upgrade items? Hunts aren't challenging so it doesn't really make sense that upgrade items are tied to such a joke of an event.

    The problem is when Esoteric gear comes out and potentially has similar upgrade items. It would be really nice to see Hunts either fixed or at least have the daily/weekly hunt selection expanded. That way I could go out hunting with a few of my friends and actually have some fun mid range content to do together. Without having to deal with the idiocy and vitriol of the general player base.

    ooh! how about they make it so that only the person/group/alliance/frog that tags it first gets credit/seals for the kill! feel free to help them kill it anyway! imagine the drama then...

    im sure eventually, they might make the weekly b ranks doable daily. i think its fine as it is at the moment. yes, it can be frustrating to show up at an A/S just as it is killed, or not get full credit, but them's the breaks. if you want it all now, you have to do the work and be at the right place at the right time.

    i dont usually go out of my way to get to a hunt. i mostly treat them like fates. if its nearby while im doing what im doing, ill jump in, maybe open a PF. no real time lost if its an "as i go" event.

    i cant speak for all servers, but most people wait plenty before pulling. its not their fault you see the announcement in your LS log (that you only said "tnx 4 d inv" in), proceed to finish your quest, vendor junk, accidentally port to golden saucer, dc, relog, complain about dcing in fc chat then head to the target only to find it dead because someone pulled it too early for you. honestly, if you cant see the mob on your screen as you run up to it, i think they waited enough.

    This is a problem even with the smaller servers. On Famfrit, people will do the same exact thing when a few stragglers are having a hard time getting there because of zoning. What's worse, it sometimes won't even be but two minutes before someone early pulls and the hunt gets burned to the ground. The OP was asking for something more conductive to server cooperation rather than go to A kill B as fast as possible. Putting the means to gear up for end game content behidn hunts was one of the most idiotic things a developer can do. A system like many other people suggested would definitely be much more welcome than the negative breeding ground that is the hunt. Because it's open world content, the hunts should be available to everyone, not just the few who hog them to themselves. Other people would like to participate in endgame content as well.

    Before someone goes harping on me to do the Daily Hunt board marks, I already do them. 110 Centurio seals is 40 short of getting at least the accessory upgrade item. Essentially SE created a clusterfuck where people are forced to participate in Hunts if they want to gear up multiple jobs to be able to have options for running endgame content. I've mained summoner since 2.0 and DPS is so plentiful that having a healing and tanking class too increases your odds of getting into content.

    I like the concept of hunting because in essence, it could of been something nice to get people out into the world more instead of camping in cities or at FC houses. You might meet some new people that are fun to be around too. But with the system in place, at best you'll luck out in that tiniest chance of being on when those shitlords who want to be done with something that has a four hour respawn are asleep.

    SE really needs to rethink their strategy with how to implement gear upgrade items if they are relying on the hunt to sort that out. Maybe not something as long as the Crystal Tower weekly upgrade drop but something in the middle, like a few day recharge DUTY that will have you run something and get a gear upgrade item at the end. There can be so many more viable options to implement gear upgrades over the "hunt" system.
