I don't have a problem with people who played WoW in the past. I have a problem with people who think they're better than everyone else.

I've always been curious the number of players that played WoW vs players that played FFXI. I feel those are the two main groups, of course some played both (like me) or other MMOs. With FFXIV being the 2nd FF MMO following what i consider a hugely successful game with one of the most loyal fan bases, and then FFXIV taking inspiration from WoW but remaining it's own game regardless, Might these two groups have different visions of how FFXIV will turn out? One side for vertical progression, one for horizontal? I find it a very interesting question concerning two very different types of players that have come together in very promising game, and both sides feel strongly about the future of the game, with opposing opinions and attitudes.
I have a feeling this thread might be referring to people who aren't interested in the story. There have been quite a few accusations against such people as being "WoW" players lately, as if that's even a negative thing to begin with (it's not).
I wouldn't say it is negative, but story is one of the main things in any FF game and to have an MMO finally IMO do it very well, I would hate to see that go away because of a population of the game deemed it more important to clear raid and min/max or whatever "elite" players do, there are many other MMOs that follow this trend.
"pull or i leave"
" let me loot everything"
"this game its for weebs and the history sucks, let me get that shiny weapon omg omg"
Typical wow players.
Why would you skip the story o_o
That's what FF is. One huge story.
Actually WoW has a pretty neat lore. It doesn't have the narrative than the FF series, but the background lore is quite interesting. Sadly, you gotta research it on your own. It's not being thrown at your face like here.
wow players are fine aslong as they understand this isnt wow and there were games before wow like eq which wow took alot of inspiration from and eq took inspiration from old text mmos and those text mmos took from a game called adventure so everyone comes from someone else doesnt really make them better or worse its the way they treat others that i have issue with i treat everyone with decency and i expect the same back sadly its pretty rare regardless of what game they played before i think its just easier to hate on wow players tbh
I don't think anyone is wanting the story to go away. I don't care about the story really, but love other aspects of the game. But is the story or people who like it doing me any harm? No. I'm pretty sure most of the "WoW players" feel the same way.I wouldn't say it is negative, but story is one of the main things in any FF game and to have an MMO finally IMO do it very well, I would hate to see that go away because of a population of the game deemed it more important to clear raid and min/max or whatever "elite" players do, there are many other MMOs that follow this trend.
When something does interest me with the story in the game, I tend to not get it from cutscenes. I go read wikis. Researching specifics that interest me is what I prefer rather than sitting through cut scenes. The stereotype that WoW has no story and therefore its players must be out to ruin FFXIV's story is pretty insane, though I've seen it said quite a few times lately.

Ugh, I don't like to multi post but well. The same applies to every kind of player, though. I could say exactly the same about the FF XI players. FFXIV took some inspiration from there too, but it's not XI. We won't expect XIV to be a carbon copy of XI with better graphics. I'm a WoW player myself, but also a Ragnarok Online player... or an Aion player... and so on. As a "veteran" in the MMO genre, every game holds its own and unique (Sometimes >_>) experience.
And I do agree with it. I see no reason to witch hunt the WoW players, as if they all were toxic for the community based in that misconception of it. The reason behind (as far as I can tell), some people hate WoW per se, therefore, they hate the players that enjoy said game. So they use the "WoW player" as a negative connotative for no reason. When something does interest me with the story in the game, I tend to not get it from cutscenes. I go read wikis.
