Heavensward Leveling... aka Northern Thanalan Leveling

After hitting 60 on June 20th, and being full law geared 2 days after I've now looked into leveling another job only to realize that.. Northern Thanalan fate grinding gives more exp than fates in HW zones (which also have mobs with significantly greater healthpools).

My only question to SE is: why? What possible reason would you have for making this design choice? There is ZERO reason to even be in those HW zones to level a 2nd job to 60. I'm on a very high population server and right now the busiest zone isn't in Ishgard, it's in Northern Thanalan.

Please buff HW fates. I've used NThan since 2.0 launched, I know I (and 99% of the player population) is sick of that zone, and would much rather be flying around in the new locations enjoying the new content you worked so hard on.

+1, Heavensward FATE XP amounts are a joke (a really bad one, at that). Less XP for greater effort? Why? Isn't the risk-reward balance a little... off?

You can always not FATE grind.. I personally hate leveling like that.

Ok, so because you personally don't like it no one probably likes it or needs to do it, mright? Useless reply is useless.

Lets hope SE will adress this when they realise that most fates are being farmed in N thanalan and not in new, wast and beautiful locations.

No one "needs" to be level 60 in two days.

Options are limited. Story quests are limited and only work for building xp to 60 on one job. Levequests are limited supply and don't offer exceptional xp. Dungeons that reward a viable amount of xp are limited. Level 50 dungeons don't reward xp (unless you get a Roulette bonus), so your options are low-level or grinding the new >50 dungeons. You are also bound by queue times. Hunt marks are limited and offer only moderate xp.

FATES are consistent and readily available. I don't love FATE grinding either, but it's efficient.

The point of the OP is that Heavensward FATES are inadequate in comparison to pre-existing, lower level FATES in N Thanalan. Whether or not someone enjoys them isn't really relevant.

I think what most people are not realizing here is that N. Thanalan is more efficient until 55 dungeons (provided the area is busy). It's not a matter of being lazy, avoiding challenge, rushing, etc. It's just that in the current state there is no reason to be in the new areas unless you're hunting.

I don't particularly like Fates, but I used them to level my second class while doing dungeons and N. Thanalan is stupidly efficient right now. I'd love to do Fates in the new zones while queuing, but it's not worth it right now (I tried doing them in all zones except the last one). At the end of the day, N. Thanalan was quicker, which is a shame.

I love new dungeons and they're great for xp, but I'd love to do Fates as an alternative in new areas too.

It's pretty much a technical reason they didn't foresee. Every FATE has a base EXP gain that scales with your level and the base EXP in N.Thanalan FATEs just happens to be larger than it is in HW zones. They can't lower it because that would affect everyone. What they could do is change the formula once you hit level 50, or cap the experience, which they should be able to do, they already did it to tradecraft leves.

The FATE Zerg in NThan is a sight to behold.

Depending on your connection and draw rate, I've heard people say, from their POV, the FATE mobs spawned, already dead.

And Gorgimera never knew what hit it.

I like FATE grinding because it's a way you can pretty mindlessly advance (usually while listening to podcasts or something) but also kinda-sorta contribute to other peoples' advancement just by helping hit things. Northern Thanalan is zone that's super visually dull, though -- one of the very few in FFXIV, to the game's credit, but still.

Just add a buttload of XP to HW area FATEs and we're all good.
