    Steps:
After completing "Onward and Upward," I turned the quest into Laniaitte without any problem. Then, upon speaking with her again to accept the next quest, she suddenly appeared with an empty text dialog. Thankfully, I was able to scroll through her text to accept the quest, though sadly I have no idea what the quest is about. I turned to speak with Honoroit and he offered the same thing: an empty text bubble that I could scroll through to completion. Unnerved but hoping that it wouldn't persist, I turned to Emmanellain who presented the quest continuation meteor above his head. Again, I could scroll through his text, but when it came to the option dialog I could not scroll up and down through choices, and became unable to continue speaking with him with the 0 key. All I could do was use the "Escape" key to get out of his text, which, thankfully, worked.

Afterward, I ported back to Ishgard hoping that a zone would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it did not. The description at the side said I should seek out "Matoya," so I began to explore the area without any luck. Frustrated, I returned back to Limsa Lominsa to log off in an inn room. Now, 24 hours and multiple log-offs, ins, and zones later, I returned to the Sea of Clouds to the exact same thing: empty text bubbles, stuck main scenario.

I suppose it should be mentioned that after logging in earlier today at around 4pm CST, I went to pick up my SCH5 quest and found that the title was in Japanese. I can only really read katakana, so all I know is that the quest was called "Bronze Lake's [something]." Thankfully, everything else was in English and I was able to complete the quest without any problem. This same strange bug persisted throughout the entire "Falcon's Nest" leg of my main scenario leg, and while I was sad to lose some of the puns that I'm sure the localization team put in the side-quest titles, it didn't impact my gameplay.

I'll let you guys decide whether that's relevant or not.

My husband sits right next to me and plays FFXIV as well, on the exact same laptop brand and model, and has had none of these issues. I guess I'm the lucky one. I know there are some quick fixes online for this, but I feel like a true fix should still be found by the dev team since they're rather awkward work-arounds.

I've been playing XIV since 1.0 and hope to see this resolved quickly. I'd love to be able to continue to enjoy Ishgard after years of waiting. Thank you for your attention and your hard work.
Hi, guys! I just wanted to write in to shed a little more light on the subject, and I can't reply in the "accepted bugs" forum. If I didn't think it'd help I'd sit on the info, but I feel like it might make tracking this down a little easier; hopefully it does. If not, I'm sorry for the bother.

Tonight, after my husband logged off, I logged onto my character from his laptop. His character, Raldo Volca, a Hyur M Midlander on Balmung, has had no issue with the MSQ, so I was hopeful I might work around the issue this way. And lo and behold, it worked! I noticed right away that the side text was pointing me (correctly) to Emmanellain, and upon entering the Sea of Clouds had no trouble speaking to all three previously affected NPCs (Laniaitte, Honoroit, and Emmanellain).

In the meantime, my husband changed the client on my laptop to Japanese, logged in on his character, then logged out and returned it to English. After flagging the next quest on his laptop, I swapped back to my own and found that "Meeting the Neighbors" now had no issue, even after speaking to both Laniaitte and Marielle.

Someone on reddit had posted the quick-fix of swapping the client to Japanese, logging in, and then swapping back a few days past, I've just been too stubborn to use the work-around. It should be noted that people using Steam to log in don't have this option and are thus thoroughly screwed until there's an official fix. However, if the "fix" is as "simple" as finding another computer to use or changing the language back and forth, I'm hopeful that this official fix isn't far away.

Thank you again, and I'm sorry for expounding upon the issue, especially if it isn't helpful or is something that's already been brought to the dev team's attention.

I am having the same bug. I switched to Japanese and am able to do the quest with my client on Japanese but when I switch back it has the same bug. I'm going to fumble through the quest on Japanese even though I can't read it and see what happens on the next quest!

Edit: Did that quest in Japanese then switched back to English, working fine so far, still get the Japanese text on some other quests though.
