ARC is probably going to remain viable insofar as pure damage output is concerned. Jobs aren't meant to wholly replace classes, but supplement them with a new set of skills and specializations. A BRD's damage ceiling will, by nature of the job, likely be lower than a pure ARC's due to the necessity of balancing support skills and damage skills.
Nothing is dying, and ARC will likely receive a pure damage job (ranger or sniper) when the second round of jobs is released.

Stunning logic, which unfortunately only works for the English version. In the Japanese version, the archer class is called simply "Bow-Warrior" (with the character for bow 弓 clearly indicating the weapon, and no abstract concept of bowing, bending or circling whatsoever ^.^/).The class names in FFXIV have been based on combat type, for instance - Gladiator fancifully translates Agent of the Gladius, or "Sword-wielder" from Latin. Why is this important? Because Ranger never meant "fights at a range," the same way "Archer" doesn't only mean "fights with a bow."

The Bow-Harp concept reminds me a lot of THIS.
I'd say it worked out pretty damn well in that game.
It really makes me want to lvl archer now.

If it really is a bow-harp don't go around crying. Hunting Horn in Monster Hunter is one of the greatest and funnest classes in the game. It can deal insane damage and buff those in a group.
If they really make a bowharp, and pull it off. +10000000000000000000 for SE.
ARC won't be better at dealing damage than Monk, RoegadynWithAnAxe and Darkgon Knight. It won't be nerfed either, sure, but the encounters aren't going to be balanced for it's DD potential either when the three DD Jobs are around.ARC is probably going to remain viable insofar as pure damage output is concerned.
The bow-harp is an interesting design, but interest aside, I think it's such a perfect example of the devs trying to fit jobs into the game where they don't belong.
The job system should have been a layer above classes, not a system on the same level with them. And the Barcher is a classic example of fanservice gone wrong.

Bahaha, thy puns are sweet music o'er-arching my ears.
To a point I agree, but Yoshida-san has stated in interviews that the idea of having more than one job-per-class is not something they're planning for at all (YET), and if implemented, would likely be an after-thought. I'm sure they at least have their base list of what classes/jobs will be coming to the game, and we'll probably see that come to fruition before there's links. Can you think of a more logical way they'd cram BST in here? They did say that they'd be implementing pet classes after sufficient testing. I can see Barcher becoming a radical damage dealer - at least ARC will have something to do between those new recast timers - buff shit.
This is very true - but if we take that logic back around to the image, that range-arcing harp is clearly situated on a bow. /dodges. I think the idea may have originated as a result of having to do this, but until I see the class in action, I'm reserving judgment. To be completely honest, it looks fun as hell.

Lies! ... Yoshi has said many time's classes are goin to branch out into more than 1. First set will indeed be only 1 per class though *facepalm*Bahaha, thy puns are sweet music o'er-arching my ears.

Edit: Ranger or a straight DD may not be coming as an off-shoot for archer right at 1.21 but sure we will see it further down the road sometime... Bard's honestly better for the first though being as it brings more flavor and variety into the game/parties we desperately need!

actually i think he said its an interesting idea, but if they did do it, it would be aways off. people who want second jobs take that as him saying it will happen. essentially what he said, is we need to get these jobs down before we consider a second teir. So if they do happen, it would be a ways off
do you have any reference to where promises multiple jobs per class?
