So you adapt around Flare's cast time. A WHM can only spam Holy if there's another healer in the group (8 man content) who also isn't adding to DPS but is handling healing for two. Or if the content's easy enough/a group is downing things fast enough that they can just make that even faster.
Our costs in using flare meant nothing because as Scholar- said, we could spam it with impunity. Literally the only cost was the cast time itself, which with swiftcast and ensuring you ate food that upped your spell speed really wasn't a cost either. Now we have a legit drawback that isn't even really a draw back. Mobs still die pretty darn fast and people are happy when we use flare.

I wish they could reign in the freaking mp scaling. A healer was commenting about it the other night, and was shocked when I started watching the actual numbers on my spells. Hate to see what it's like after they give us another level cap increase.
You do realise the Mp scaling has not changed ? It's exactly the same situation as the start of ARR.

I've personally avoided leveling my WHM to 60 because of the Holy nerf, I understand healers main role is to keep everyone alive, but I'd rather DPS instead of stand in battle-idle when no healing needs to be done, and Holy was the WHM godsend trump card, but now it feels like I'm just wasting MP. At least Aero III and Stone III are there to balance it out.
Still worth popping when you can, any amount of DPS helps.I've personally avoided leveling my WHM to 60 because of the Holy nerf, I understand healers main role is to keep everyone alive, but I'd rather DPS instead of stand in battle-idle when no healing needs to be done, and Holy was the WHM godsend trump card, but now it feels like I'm just wasting MP. Silly reason not to up 60. Do remember you're a healer first and foremost, as you say.
Holy still hits relatively hard and if you find time to throw a few in can add up to a pretty hefty amount of damage, not to mention we also now have Assize which is a nice little 300 potency AoE to throw in with it when it won't be needed as a heal. I think the addition of Assize and Aero III more than make up for the Holy nerf unless you're in some kind of position of being able to sit and spam Holy on five targets endlessly.I've personally avoided leveling my WHM to 60 because of the Holy nerf, I understand healers main role is to keep everyone alive, but I'd rather DPS instead of stand in battle-idle when no healing needs to be done, and Holy was the WHM godsend trump card, but now it feels like I'm just wasting MP. As much as I dislike the Flare nerf, and am indifferent to the holy nerf... GIVE ME BACK MY DAMN MANAWALL

wuti usually somewhat agree with the nerfs that are done in a way to balance the classes so no one is greater, however i think that the nerf to flare has the opposite effect.
Either the recast of flare needs to be lowered, or the recast of whm holy needs to be increased.
Sure holy got nerfed, but it has a low recast so the whm can still easily outdps blm or probably any other dps for that matter.
A good BLM does more than a WHM
And in light parties, the tank will die if the WHM just spam holy and do 0 heals lol
Healers get 0 accuracy on gear too
