Question about Midgarsormr (Post Heavensward spoilers)

Most likely Midgarsomr will still pop up in the story, but since we both showed men and dragon could regain peace with each other, as well as regained the Crystal's blessing, he doesn't need to shadow us anymore. Though whether next time we see him he'll be even bigger is still a possible thing.

Also there is absolutely no way that Tiamat won't play some sorta role in the story later on. Probably with us freeing her, but possibly not (Garlean intervention being the most likely second option)

As a secondary note, just for clarification, is Bahamut Midgardsormr's child? I remember seeing something that suggested otherwise, but I can't remember for sure.

Well, you'd find this out at level 59, but Tiamat is Midgardsormr's daughter and is imprisoned on Azys Lla. She asked for her beloved, Bahamut, to be reincarnated but the monster that he came back as was not the [man] she loved. As a result she is remorseful and believes her current fate is fitting. When Midgardsormr asks her when she will forgive herself, she seems to imply she never can.

You kind of left out that the reason she was able to get Bahamut back was because she consorted with the Ascians, who in turn taught the Allagan Empire how to capture the reborn Bahamut just to screw with Tiamat further. The Bahamut she summoned is the same primal that we all know and "love" today. We are never shown or told how the original Bahamut was like.

The two of them birthed children and populated the region to create the nation of Meracydia.

To be fair, we're talking about dragons.

Dragons are known to mate with everything. And everyone. And each other, regardless of relation.

Not to mention, as far as we're aware, they're all descended from Middy right? That means they're *all* related, regardless.

I'll transcribe it and people can decide for themselves, but I thought it was pretty clear.
Midgardsormr came to the planet (space dragon) with seven eggs, when they grew up they went off to different regions to populate them.

Here's the transcription

Tiamat: Harken to my tale, child of man. I am Tiamat, pf Midgardsormr's first brood.
Tiamat: In a time before time, my father did come to this star, bearing seven eggs.
Midgardsormr: From these eggs did my children hatch. And once they were full grown, they took wing and spread across all the lands of Hydaelyn.
Tiamat: Together with my brood-brother Bahamut, I journeyed south to Meracydia. And together, we brought forth innumerable children unto the world.
Tiamat: We abided in peace, and all was well...until the men of Allag came, some five thousand years since. They slaughtered my children in droves and took from me my beloved Bahamut.

The dragons of Meracydia were all her children (and she brought those children together with Bahamut). All dragons come from Midgardsomr.
I don't think this is read any other way.


On another note, I think this might imply that Ratatoskr wasn't just Nidhogg's sister but his mate as well.
His rage would be justified either way, but this adds another layer to it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 6 of the first brood all paired off while Hraesvelgr was the odd one out. But he found companionship with Shiva.

Well that last part is speculation, but the Ratatoskr being Nidhogg's mate is very likely in my opinion.
