Please Use the Correct Form of Jump Square Enix!!!

    Greetings!

Let me start off by saying that I know jump is being implemented into this game & there is no way to stop it from coming.

Given that the only information we currently have regarding jump can be found here, I ask that the devs please use correct judgement when implementing this feature.

There are two primary ways to implement jump (as seen in these videos): A WRONG WAY & A RIGHT WAY.

The way Square Enix used the jump feature in Final Fantasy 13 was well implemented because you used the feature when you NEEDED it. While the former way of implementation only serves to allow childish use of the jump feature.

The last thing I wish to see in this game is hundreds of people afk in the major cities with bots actively using jump or active players jumping around 24/7 like rabbits.

(I apologize for the lack of quality the videos might have. I tried searching for ones that showed both ways of implementation & those were the best that I found.)

    Thank you for your time!

I agree with the situational type of jump.

Sorry to point this out so directly, but the "Wrong" version is actually more strategically involving than the "Right" version, and has infinitely more promise because of it. The reasoning for this boils down to the simple fact that, while both methods have a "contextual" use, the former's is defined dynamically by the player whereas the latter's is defined statically by the game. Not only does the former method fulfill the function of the latter (i.e. interacting with the world), but it can also help define the actual gameplay.

Quite honestly, the only reason that the "Wrong" version is being interpreted as a childish implementation is because there is no Fatigue (or dare I say 'Stamina') function in place to prevent the player from repetitively jumping. Of course with Stamina gone, I really don't have much hope for the feature altogether.

It's not pessimistic, context sensitive jump isn't a bad option at all, hell the game people consider "the best ever", Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time uses it and basically pushed it to the frontlines of gaming with no complaint, but that was the 90s, where people like just..playing games.

I miss the 90s when everyone wasn't a gamer, and gaming was more niche.

Whoa, you just hit me with the nostalgia bat I can still remember the outrage about this before Ocarina was released. "LINK DOESN'T JUMP! NINTENDO RUINS THE GAME! THIS IS NOT MY ZELDA!" The game magazines were full with angry letters. It was glorious.

I remember a confirmation that jump would be an aesthetic only feature designed to make players feel less "tethered" to the ground - so I doubt we'll see either of those scenarios - for better or worse.

True jump in FFXIV probably can't even be accomplished due to the game's lack of a Z-Axis. If your character reaches a certain height without being tied to an object (such as the floor), you can actually hover on that layer (though other's won't see it until you descend to a tangible object), allowing you to ride the invisible floor to other locations like so.

I don't know how they'd give us true jump with that issue in the way.

    .....

This wouldn't be a 3D game in both graphics or mechanics if there was no Z-Axis, nor would 3D movement be possible. There isn't a lack of a z-axis, there's lack of optimization, quite a different beast.
