I must have a very warped (at at least very liberal) perception of what "2.5D" and lack of "true Z-Axis" are... to Wikipedia!

A z-axis is basically 3D movement in the end. 2.5D you could consider games like Super Smash Brothers, which is technically a 3D game, but it lacks 3D movement as it's predominantly Y/X only.
Aye, I gotcha. Bad terminology on my part. I'll just leave it at "The layers in this game are way too screwy." Have you noticed that if you stand in one of the hallways of the Limsa AG, your character will project into the stairwell and be in two places at once? That's the kind of thing I mean. There's just no attention paid to most information on the Z-Axis. Somehow, the maps overlap. Idk how easy this is to see now that no one ever goes to Limsa, but if you stand in the stairwell in the middle, you can see people running into and out of the walls as they cross the hallways above. A lalafell on my server used to sit in the hallway so she'd be bazaaring in multiple locations at once.
Anyway, sh!t like that leads me to believe implementing any sort of useful jump would be a clusterf**k, wouldn't it?

I would imagine ontent sensitive jumping would probably take more effort to implement, and I don't know if something that extensive should be a priority at this point in time. Gives us just a nice, plane jump, so you can focus on other, more important things than making it "context sensitive".
Context sensitivity brings up a whole set of issues in itself: whereas a regular jump allows players to know how high and how far and what they can jump through experience and a consistent movement, context sensitivity can be misleading. You might vault over one fence, only to find the next one, despite being the same look and height, does not, due to changes in positioning or programming.
I just really never got the "OMG JUMPING RANDOMLY *foams at mouth*" mentality. Maybe you're wearing a bikini that annoys me, or a helmet that I think is stupid looking - I'm not going to wage a campaign to have it removed from the game or only allowed during events that require it. Practically speaking, it's not that different from people who complain about the almost purely aesthetic issue of people jumping. What's the difference between jumping "childishly", whatever that means, and wearing a dumb helmet and a bikini and running in circles? Should we ban running, bikinis and helmets because what you do annoys other people? Why do you even care what I'm doing, and wouldn't you be offended if I told you to stop wearing that helmet because it offends my personal tastes?
TL;DR. Likely ain't happening, if only because it's extra work for a less consistent result.
Edit: Just to be nitpicky, no form of jumping is the "correct" form. What OP is referring to is their *preferred form*. Anyway, sorry, done now, < /rant >!

Free jumping, fine. Just please for the love of Yoshi, no front flips...
It was already said what the jump would be a more free roaming jump, but not tied to battle strategy. Get over it. There is no wrong way or right way, only personal preferences. I found your "wrong way" video quite funny. It was a horrible portrayal of the wrong way once it was only made to be silly. You don't want people to be silly? In a game? Is this serious business to you? If it is, good luck to you.
100% agree with OP. Jump is retarded unless its an auto thing or a LNC (Dragoon) ability (which is my preferred method).
Hevn't i seen this post 500 times before? Oh, yes I have!
We all know jump will be used in battle, so we wont get a auto-jump.
And with the time between computer - server - computer2 we got right now,
we cant even see if someone is following you if youre standing still. With jump the exact thing would happen,
what are you trying to say?
Btw, it is more childish whining about it than don't caring about it :/
Why would bots jump in city? Just to annoy you? You really that dumb?
A bot would ... bot. They couldn't care less about you, neither can I.
Actually, depending on what purpose certain mechanics serve, Bots will utilize it if it can prevent you from doing something. For example if Jumping in an MMO forces the nearest person to target them, not only would players abuse that fact but bots will as well to keep you from accessing x NPC or picking up x treasure that falls on the ground while bot #2 does its thing.
Also, Jumping in XIV is basically going to be useless (e.g Yoshida said it will serve no true game changing purpose.)
I've never played an mmo with jumping, what exactly is the allure in a jump feature in a game with no platforming involved?
