After completing "Onward and Upward," I turned the quest into Laniaitte without any problem. Then, upon speaking with her again to accept the next quest, she suddenly appeared with an empty text dialog. Thankfully, I was able to scroll through her text to accept the quest, though sadly I have no idea what the quest is about. I turned to speak with Honoroit and he offered the same thing: an empty text bubble that I could scroll through to completion. Unnerved but hoping that it wouldn't persist, I turned to Emmanellain who presented the quest continuation meteor above his head. Again, I could scroll through his text, but when it came to the option dialog I could not scroll up and down through choices, and became unable to continue speaking with him with the 0 key. All I could do was use the "Escape" key to get out of his text, which, thankfully, worked.
Afterward, I ported back to Ishgard hoping that a zone would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it did not. The description at the side said I should seek out "Matoya," so I began to explore the area without any luck. Frustrated, I returned back to Limsa Lominsa to log off in an inn room. Now, 24 hours and multiple log-offs, ins, and zones later, I returned to the Sea of Clouds to the exact same thing: empty text bubbles, stuck main scenario.
I suppose it should be mentioned that after logging in earlier today at around 4pm CST, I went to pick up my SCH5 quest and found that the title was in Japanese. I can only really read katakana, so all I know is that the quest was called "Bronze Lake's [something]." Thankfully, everything else was in English and I was able to complete the quest without any problem. This same strange bug persisted throughout the entire "Falcon's Nest" leg of my main scenario leg, and while I was sad to lose some of the puns that I'm sure the localization team put in the side-quest titles, it didn't impact my gameplay.
I'll let you guys decide whether that's relevant or not.
My husband sits right next to me and plays FFXIV as well, on the exact same laptop brand and model, and has had none of these issues. I guess I'm the lucky one. I know there are some quick fixes online for this, but I feel like a true fix should still be found by the dev team since they're rather awkward work-arounds.
I've been playing XIV since 1.0 and hope to see this resolved quickly. I'd love to be able to continue to enjoy Ishgard after years of waiting. Thank you for your attention and your hard work. Included below are a few screenshots depicting this problem.
