The answer [yes] is ironically contained in the question you asked.

For tons of reasons I dont think I have to get into, playing a child character is out of the question and makes zero lore sense.

Lalafell is about the closest thing you're going to get, but they're just really small and stubby. This is played for a few laughs, but the lore gives them no lack of respect in regards to the other races, and despite having adorable faces, none of the Lalafell design choices will ever have them mistaken for children, and they're the most sexually ambiguous class in the game. I don't know how the Japanese audio handles this, but there isn't a single Lala NPC in English that is cast to sound even remotely childlike or small. Not one.


Suspension of disbelief is in effect for things like Lalafell carrying heavy weaponry and armor and playing tank roles. But for most of the other classes they make plenty of sense.

But there's really no suspension of disbelief when you throw a kitten (or any child-esque player) into a pit with a fire breathing demon primal.
