For some reason Lalas are fine.

Lala characters are adults and we know it, they're also shaped like potatoes, so it's hilarious to see them try to be sexy.

Children running around in subligars is not something i want to see in this game. Toddlers in tiaras already makes me gag.

As a side note, does anyone supporting them know what kind of audience this game will attract? Not the good kind.

As I remade my character with my free Fantasia, I realized how young every male human (I don't care to remember the game's name for them, no offense) looks due to the sad lack of facial hair options. This on top of the perplexingly babyface face choices that are available as well.

I started to think however, that the "young adventurer" is a fairly popular archetype, even when you don't take into account the littany of bland "young adult" novels that are littering the landscape.

This isn't actually that surprising when you remember that most fantasy stories will follow the Monomyth by design, which is structured in such a way that a young protagonist makes more sense. He or she needs to be untraveled and inexperienced, which is more often the case with young adults than adults.

Even in A Song of Ice and Fire, the most popular, most mature fantasy series right now, most of the heroes are children or young adults.

The fundamental issue with allowing you to make a young adult character in an MMO - to allow you to make a Harry Potter or a Jon Snow, which shouldn't be a shocking desire to anyone - is that many/most countries won't allow games to show violence towards children. I don't know how this works with fantasy violence - there have been Harry Potter games, after all. But FFXIV has swords and axes and hacking and slashing that is probably a far cry from the violence in a Harry Potter game.

The fact that some other players or NPCs that this hypothetical young adult character will be fighting against will be adult characters makes it even worse. Which isn't to say that a graphic Battle Royale/Hunger Games video game would be well received, but it certainly has a better chance than a game where a giant horned demon man fights teenagers with an axe.

Just chiming in to say that I support this. It doesn't even have to be children, per se - they could add playable hybrids and let us play as Lalaqo'te which would likely look pretty close to that model.

I, personally, really like playing cute characters but do NOT like the potato-like qualities of the Lalafell. A race sitting somewhere in-between Miqo'te and Lalafell would have been absolutely perfect for me. Like the Lyn from Blade & Soul:



If the next race filled that particular niche, I would fantasia to them instantly. It's a very obvious hole in the current lineup, plus it would have HUGE appeal in Japan, China, and Korea. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

that standard is a more recent one. if you are going to compare this game to anything in real life, go back in time to an era that is closer to how things work. like the times where it was considered strange for a 14 year old girl to not be married yet, and having kids happened close to that age.

Agreed. I'm pretty damn sure in fantasy settings... especially real life medieval ones, that basically being 15 is being a adult. Just look at the ages of Game of Thrones of the girls getting married off lol. As soon as they become "flowered".

Here's what I think SE should do:
-Add more facial features like larger eyes, rounder jawlines, bigger ears for Miqo'te, smaller horns for Au'Ra, etc., so players can have a more youthful/baby-faced look without being actual children. More character customization is always a plus and I'm surprise SE hasn't add more facial features since launch.
-Add a more youthful looking race. Heal showed a good example with that Viera concept art. So long as they don't get a hyper-sexualized and/or deformed as the Elin in Tera Online...Because that's creepy.
