I'm really hoping it's derplander. I never liked the whole "cutscene adventurers are warrior-of-light replacements" thing.

It's pretty hard to do mass viewer cutscenes tailored to every single individual character.
All of the scenes involving derplander are trailers designed to be seen outside game. That's why your character isn't in them. They have to use *something*.
Sorta like how Pathfinder has iconics. Each class has a specific race/gender/archetype model character for it. They're fully itemized and everything, they're playable.
Considering that here, the Warrior of Light's backstory is unknown(on purpose) and their current story is completely identical canonically across all persons playing any given class, there's no reason they *can't* just make a base character for each class and use it in the cutscenes.
They're not able to make it so that you see your character when you're watching a cut scene not hosted on their servers while you're not logged in with live access to your character data. And what about folks that don't play?
These are trailers aimed at the general public. You seeing your own character in them, when they're not made using the in game engine for the most part, is impractical. These are full CGI. In game cutscenes for the most part use in game assets.
You're asking for an *awful* lot of work.
