Except Tataru and Alphinaud were nowhere near Derplander in the video. Like I said in my post, he constantly did stuff in the video that we never did in the game. He is clearly his own character.Problem is that canon wise the WoL goes to Ishgard alone with Tataru and Alphinaud only (they were guest of the Fortess house after all, but the house cant invite a legion of ppl). He/she doesnt bring anyone else to reinforce the idea of being scattered and alone after the Uldah mess

Except going to Ishgard after the sultana was [assassinated], which is a pretty rare thing to happen in and of itself... also working with Cid, which we do, and oh yeah being allowed to become a dragoon alongside Estinien in the video.
What are you talking about?

Yes, going to Ishgard is rare I'll give you that. But the way the midlander crossed was completely different from ours.
We went to the Dravanian Forelands with Ysayle, Estinien and Alphinaud on foot and had no idea what Cid was doing for at least 6 levels. Nothing in the video suggests that Estinien was there (who by the way was absent from the group for a long time between The Vault and the Gubal Library). Quests in the Churning Mists show that there are lots of dragoons with the same dark blue armor. Also the last segment of the video showed derplander and the dragoons in Ishgard while it is attacked by armies of dragons. I completed the MSQ and no such thing happened.
What are YOU talking about?

You're not giving me anything, though. Once more, we know that the Midlander was at the assassination, that he took the same trek into Ishgard that we did, that he is a companion of Cid. And we know what Cid was doing, he was working on airships for the Ishgardians? But beyond that...

You were saying? You see the Warrior of Light, right there, as the Midlander.
There are the scenes with Iceheart, with Estinien, with Tataru, with Alphinaud. This isn't some kind of conspiracy. We're clearly the "Derplander," and as such the ending is definitely going to be that we fight our shadowed clone.

I would expect something more akin to the Divine Might battle from FFXI. That could be incredibly fun in XIV as well, rather than resorting to the 'clone' of your character after doing something so similar in the DRK story chain.

DERPLANDER ON THE MOON WITH AN ASCIAN!
Oh man, I am so glad I stopped being able to take the MAQ seriously long before that so that I could enjoy all the absurdity of that reveal. So good.
Also I don't have the qoute on hand since it was from forever ago, but right as I saw that scene I recalled a response in the "who is the GGI midlander?" thread with Ferne going "who knows, maybe you'll even run into him in game later at some point!" and me and most of the people in my FC could just not stop laughing.

I think the reason why Derplander was used is because the WoD will be a custom character that we create

I don't think the WoD is a place holder for our "clone" why use the posterboy derplander, complete with relic weapon if they aren't gonna use him at all? They're more than capable of using our characters in these type of scene ... or if they wanted to they could just focus on his feet for the sake of maintaining mystery.
Just like how Ysayle was also gifted with the crystal of light and was "Hydaelyn's chosen and became our counterpart for a bit, I'm believe this WoD will serve a similar role. I do believe that this "derplander" was probably one of the WoL in 1.0
According to one of the Easter holiday lore, there was an Archon/WoL (a Roegadyn mage) who decided to side with "cloaked mages in black robes" for mysterious reasons.

Also you're all right wrt "is the derplander you or someone else". Relevant part is the last paragraph of the first post here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post898626

Or maybe you are all wrong on your theories. Maybe the Ascians made something that resembles a humanoid aspect using the knowledge of Allag. There is still so much we don't know about Allag really. And from making this person, they call him/her the Warrior of Darkness. Because, apparently Zodiark IS Darkness, and the Ascians wanted to make a warrior to 'champion' their master. To carry out 'his' will. Maybe it has nothing to do with us, or past 'WoL/D's. I, for one, would love to see THE city of Allag. the root of why it came to be, and who was its original leader and whatnot. Allag is still a mystery. Even with Yugiri's Doma homeland. There's just too much we don't know yet. But, I'm sure we'll find out in teh future Patches or even Expansions. But teh whole going to Space thing? Bring it on! I would love that!
