This has been brought up time and again, and time and again I feel the need to remind people that the Archons have special goggles that allow them to view aether flow; if we were a primal they would have noticed it upon our first meeting. Probably.

Since we're on the subject of those goggles, assuming they are able to get a good look, wouldn't they be able to discern an Ascian as well? I'm under the assumption that, with an Ascian in a host, there would be two different aethers within a single soul space, which would probably disturb the natural aetherical flow of the host.
That being said, we went right into Thancred's soulspace and fought Lahabrea there Prae, so with 100% certainty, Echo users can discern an Ascian when in a host, I'm just curious as to what other tools SE might pull out of the box at a later point.
(The primal theory is interesting, but I don't buy it for a second. Thordan probably would have beat you flat out if you were a primal, since, it's as he said, he had thousands of years of constant prayer. The WoL are much more ephemeral throughout history).

And I also don't buy the "player is a primal" theory because the story keeps hammering the point of how a primal can drain aether from the land very quickly by simply existing in said space. We would have sent the world into ruin by now and no, I'm not going to buy the theory of how we're "special" and thus making us a primal that doesn't drain aether.

Arguably, we are a sort of not-primal but something in the same vein anyways. Rather than taking our power from the land and life in our immediate vicinity, we cut to the chase and tap right into the Mother-crystal herself. Hence her weakness after we beat Lahabrea the first time. Though now we are apparently strong enough in and of ourselves to avoid that. ((Sortof. We haven't replicated the Sword of Light feat again without special items.))And I also don't buy the "player is a primal" theory because the story keeps hammering the point of how a primal can drain aether from the land very quickly by simply existing in said space.
