I sincerely hope it's not a reflection of our own characters. That's just not how the Warriors of Darkness in the past have been constructed. They were all individuals chosen by the Dark Crystal (in FF: Dimensions, the Lux Crystal) to restore the balance/fight against the Light. It would be incredibly boring to simply fight a reflection of our own character.

I would have loved for it to be Derplander though, would have been a cool way to introduce him officially into the storyline rather than him be the poster boy of the games. Alas, if we go by the trailer he would have been a Dragoon. Not 100% ruling it out, but saying it might not be very likely to happen.

I don't see him coming back only because he's had his fake out death already.
Also, there was a decent progression of events on his own side that lead to him causing his own demise. So I think it was appropriate for the character.
