Well, there are certain raid situations in which one tank takes the mobs to a side of the room while the boss is being tanked across, right?
With the Ranged LB you can hit both packs.

Ranged will probably be preferred for Cleave type aoe (2 big adds and the boss) in particular, which isn't uncommon.
Or when the adds can be stacked as you said.
There'll probably be situations when you need a wider AoE. But if ranged does more damage (which it should) then Caster will probably be more of a niche.
What? So you want to make it superior to the melee LB3.
No, even there's more positioning that's silly.
It should be mid way between melee and caster damage. That's balanced.
I don't know if it is or isn't that way right now.
I don't think it takes up the whole room.
Here's a gif from reddit.
Note: The MCH casts, then moves forward to cast again. The first time he does casts, you can see the whole range of it on the screen.
The second time, the end of it goes off screen.
He also gets pushed back when doing it and you can seem the attack doesn't hit everything (if the animation is accurate). It basically hits where the original cast outlines.
So that's like 2/3's of Ifrit's circle room? So I don't know if you can hit things on the opposite end in most cases.

I used LB3 in Battle in the Big Keep on Greg. I *intentionally* (that's my story and am sticking to it!) got Greg & the healer chain. What got me was the damage shown on screen.. ~15800 for Greg and about 10400 for the chained healer. iLvl125 with zeta & Crit/Det bard setup, at the time i was right about early lvl 51 or late lvl 50.
Just so you know, Limit Breaks are scaled based on all of the party's weapon damage averaged out.I used LB3 in Battle in the Big Keep on Greg. Your personal stats, buffs or level don't matter.
I'm not sure what would qualify a miss on a bard LB, I've used rank 2 on the final boss of Neverreap and after the animation, he was pretty much behind me, no where near where the animation says the shot went. Still hit though. Unless you mean miss as in it misses adds that do run out of the animation? But it appears that as long as you have your target targeted when you cast, it will hit... the target at least. Untargeted adds, maybe not?
The mob boss was probably still in the targeted area when your caster bar finished. So long as they're in that zone when the cast bar is full, it doesn't matter where they are post animation. I can safely say that it is possible to miss... I didn't lock on my first time using it... and my cat bumped my elbow, which made me hit the joystick... which made me LB a wall.I'm not sure what would qualify a miss on a bard LB, I've used rank 2 on the final boss of Neverreap and after the animation, he was pretty much behind me, no where near where the animation says the shot went. Ranged LB is now the go to LB for before a pull that will wipe your LB since its stronger than Mage.
What's the cast time on the ranged LB? Is it comparable to the cast time on the caster LB?
