Tips for steadfast?

I love everything about MRD except that you have to wait so long for Steadfast to kick in. Does anyone have any tips on getting better use out of it? So far I will go into active mode infront of target mobs and wait before attacking, and sometimes I pull with a throwing axe to avoid moving.

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

If it's just the enhanced parry, weapon out and a throwing axe is the way to go. Also, Enduring March will allow you to move, albiet slowly, for a short time without losing Steadfast.

You can always use the steadfast cooldown time to buff. Often it might be up after you finish using 3 buff actions...so i usually open with basic action > foresight > featherfoot...by the time you finish putting featherfoot, if you didn't move, it might be up. Just make sure to use foresight first if you plan using jarring strike too or, if the mob is pulled with ranged attack, you might "waste" featherfoot on its ranged attack since you won't be able to retaliate.

Some moves may delay the arrival of Steadfast. For me, using Enduring March before Steadfast means that I won't get Steadfast when I normally expect it. And it seems Bloodbath may also delay the arrival of my Steadfast as well.

I never noticed actions delaying steadfast here.
