Hello all!
I am not making any promising it which is why I clearly labeled it a "potential" fix. We have 1 desktop and 1 laptop in my home in which we both play FFXIV (2 different accounts).
On my Windows 7 desktop, I logged in early this morning (11AM EST) with I believe 1 5006 error message, but it went away after retrying once. The Windows 8 laptop had no issues connecting at all. Played for about 1-2 hours and disconnected.
Fast forward to now around 8PM-9PM EST and the Windows 8 laptop couldn't connect. The Windows 7 desktop instantly connected without any issues, but the Windows 8 laptop kept getting disconnected with 2002 and 5006 errors. I tried a ipconfig /flushdns command on the Windows 8 laptop and that didn't work. I tried troubleshooting by using different wifi connections, that didn't help either. I reconnected multiple times on the Windows 7 machine without issues, but yet the Windows 8 machine would not connect ever with ~90% of the messages being 2002 errors. So, we tested to see if trying a different data center would connect.
We connected to another data center without any issues on the Windows 8 laptop. Then pressed the bottom left X at the character selection screen and changed the data center back to where the Windows 8 laptop's characters were, and it connected!
I am thinking this could be a caching issue with data centers... but I cannot confirm this. Can other people try this and see if it fixing their issue? So to repeat in 3 steps:
1) Choose a different data center at the main screen and it will connect after you press the button.
2) If it does connect, press X and to back to main screen
3) Choose your original data center at the main screen and press the button and hopefully it connects...
If it doesn't, I am sorry if I got anyone's hopes up, but this is what worked for us. It is possible it was just luck... but maybe not...
