ERROR 5006 AND 2002 POTENTIAL FIX

    Hello all!

I am not making any promising it which is why I clearly labeled it a "potential" fix. We have 1 desktop and 1 laptop in my home in which we both play FFXIV (2 different accounts).

On my Windows 7 desktop, I logged in early this morning (11AM EST) with I believe 1 5006 error message, but it went away after retrying once. The Windows 8 laptop had no issues connecting at all. Played for about 1-2 hours and disconnected.

Fast forward to now around 8PM-9PM EST and the Windows 8 laptop couldn't connect. The Windows 7 desktop instantly connected without any issues, but the Windows 8 laptop kept getting disconnected with 2002 and 5006 errors. I tried a ipconfig /flushdns command on the Windows 8 laptop and that didn't work. I tried troubleshooting by using different wifi connections, that didn't help either. I reconnected multiple times on the Windows 7 machine without issues, but yet the Windows 8 machine would not connect ever with ~90% of the messages being 2002 errors. So, we tested to see if trying a different data center would connect.

We connected to another data center without any issues on the Windows 8 laptop. Then pressed the bottom left X at the character selection screen and changed the data center back to where the Windows 8 laptop's characters were, and it connected!

I am thinking this could be a caching issue with data centers... but I cannot confirm this. Can other people try this and see if it fixing their issue? So to repeat in 3 steps:

    1) Choose a different data center at the main screen and it will connect after you press the button.
    2) If it does connect, press X and to back to main screen
    3) Choose your original data center at the main screen and press the button and hopefully it connects...

If it doesn't, I am sorry if I got anyone's hopes up, but this is what worked for us. It is possible it was just luck... but maybe not...

This trick works but the problem now is people are stuck in a permanent queue that doesn't move. A lot of us have been stuck at "1" for a while now.

I really wish there was legit way to fix this, besides sitting on our hands. I have been disconnected from the Aether data center for 5 hours and can connect to all the other data centers except my own.

I hate to sound like -that- person, but I really hope SE compensates people for this. We paid to play early and we can't.

Sorry for anyone getting the "1" queue stuck screen. If I encounter this I will surely figure out a workaround. There might be a smarter registry fix or cache file clear fix, but haven't looked into it. Hopefully SE is aware of this issue and figures out how to properly fix it ASAP. A lot of people seem to think it is just not being able to make a connection to the server, but this is a software glitch, not a server issue.

Didn't work for me. Tried switching to another NA data center and got in, but got errors again once I tried switching back to Aether. Hopefully a permanent fix is coming soon.

Switching Data centers no longer works. I just tried it. Now it gives error 5006 all around.

I think 5006 errors are not software related but a server error.

Ok you are right about it being a dns issue but there is more to it than that. Some people need to turn off their modems AND routers. Some people need to flush their dns from their computer(search or open CMD and right click, run as administrator, then, at the prompt, type ipconfig /flush) .... Those of you using Firewalls such as avast will need to temporary turn that off as well and then log in. Also, those of you using VPN, and ANONys will need to turn it off to get in as some are not caching the DNS properly.

And some of you..like me..will have to do all of this.
Gonna Repost this as a new thread so it does not get buried

It is not necessarily a DNS issue, but a caching issue inside the software. The ipconfig /flushdns did not help with my Windows 8 laptop, but switching data centers seemed to overwrite some cached data.
