There a ramp on the other side.I was surprised at the way flying works. Having to unlock 15 points on each map is a little overkill if you ask me. The main story quests I can understand, it's like they don't want you to fly yet until you progress up to a certain point in the story. I'm okay with that. But the sidequests and the little exploration mini game have felt a little annoying and quite tedious. The worst part is when your compass leads you to giant cliffs that are not accessible.
Initially hearing about how we had to get aether currents before we could fly ticked me off. However, after actually playing through the story so far (I'm not done yet) and having unlocked 3 of the 6 areas, I have to say I actually enjoyed tracking these aether currents down. Kind of became a little mini-game to me. Except for when I got to Churning Mists, seemed like 90% of the currents were along the way of the MSQ and/or sidequests I was doing anyway so I'd just go somewhere or be heading somewhere and see the current and then go get it. The other two maps I've completed so far, I had to use the Compass to find nearly all of the Aether Currents, but I found it kinda fun.
And flying is so awesome It's like the frosting on the cake.
