I like it. It's a giant puzzle. "How do I get up there?" There's a way, you just have to figure it out. And then once you do, flying is its own sweet reward.

It's fine, it's there to provoke you into doing side quests and opening up more side quest story lines that reward with aether unlocks plus actually exploring the content on the expansion zones rather than just running to only MSQ locations etc. It's not that hard to collect them and the reward of flight in the zone is good enough. It adds a little depth to the traveling around too so I am okay with it.

I just google a map of where they are, and choose my route from there.
The people at reddit are doing a good job of making them, even adding markers to ones unlocked with quests.
I agree!
Ive been so mad at sea of clouds my fc mates stopped replying.
I did every single quest that I could reach and still couldn't unlock it, only to find out I needed to get a quest from another zone to be able to unlock it.
This is so silly because I was saving my side quests for other jobs, but now I have to run through most of them on my main.
I like the green thingies though, just not the quests

People never stop complaining about everything. Im having tons of fun finding the aether currents because now i've a reason to explore the map and doing side quests.
The maps are really well designed for flying but are a pain in the ass before then. I finished all my aether currents last night and swore I'd never put my lala feet on the ground in a 3.0 area ever again.
I'm usually a "do all the sidequests!" type - and because of the how awful the experience of walking in most of these maps is I found myself looking up the currents/quests chains that led to currents and getting flying before doing any sidequests, leaving a ton undone still too. For me, it actively discouraged exploration.
I think it's a great exploration activity...people just impatient and has i want it and i want it now mentality. Enjoy the game man, it's an expansion, not a patch where you power through in a week. All the shouts in churning mist about so many side quests really makes me want to cuddle a moogle >![]()
It just got on my nerves, I don't mind hunting down all the aether spots, that is fine. What I don't like is having to guess which side quests will branch off into the ones I need for my Aether quest. Its just annoying and even more so when you get down to the last few and FINALLY find it, then when you unlock it you see you only have 1 or 2 more quests left before your void of anything more and move on to the next area to repeat the process. Yes I am aware it will help me later when gathering or hunts but as far as doing quests go, its just a pain in the tail. At least tell me which quests I need to do so I can actually enjoy flying longer than 5 minutes.
This is one of the biggest problems with this game people wanting something the easy way instead of earning it. I like that you have to earn the right to fly gives you a sense of accomplishment when you finally do unlock it. Besides the aether currents aren't that hard besides maybe having to wait till I unlocked the second parts of certain zones (sea of clouds, dravanian hinterlands) but really to me it wouldn't make flying all that special if they just handed it to you as soon as you entered a zone. Plus your already running around doing quests in such usually I'll weave my current hunting in with side quests that way you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone and it honestly helps keep you from focusing on one thing and getting bored. Anyway my point is in tired of people crying when something is to hard and just wanting it handed to them. Aether currents are fine the way they are. As for moogle quests >_<
If you want a taste of flying before you unlock it in a zone, and you don't want to slog through aggro and BS, please do note that the chocobo porters between hamlets in each zone FLY so you don't have to muck around with it.
Good birds.
