Ishgard history question (pre 57 spoilers)

So I am level 57 and just finsihed a run in the vault so please try to keep this spoiler free from there.

However I have a question about the nobility of ishgard.

It is said that the 4 noble houses were the decedents of 4 of the kinghts twelve correct? And that all nobility comes from their bloodline (which is special....why again?).

But later its found out that all of ishgard has the same noble blood and everyone is decended from the 12 knights. This is where I get lost a bit.

So the 12 knights blinded Nidhog, and 7 of them just went back to normal lives and kept secret what happened while the other 4 took the reins? And the head knight went on to found the dragoons?

So that means every ishgardian has some of Rataska's blood in them? Also what did the 4 knights say about the other 8? That they all died and thus only they 4 were left to take the helm?

This was shown in the echo flashback after the aery.

Of the twelve, four died. One became the founder of 'The Forgotten Knight' as he and three others walked away from the whole messy betrayal, stating they had sworn to follow Haldreth, the son of Thoradan, and not Ishgardian as a whole. This left the four Knights of the four great houses to be stewards of the empty throne. Haldreth was the first dragoon, it seems, or maybe Thoradan was. He chose to abticate the throne, seemingly because of the betrayal the elzen committed against the dragons.

Ok but I still dont get how EVERY ishgardian is now of one of the twelve knights bloodline? As that makes it seems there were a few ishgardians that were not of the twelve knights that could have easily have had children and such.

As I understood it, and I could be wrong, the fact that Nidhogg was able to turn the fallen into dragons was proof that they had the blood of the twelve knights in them?
This was so revolutionary not only because it meant they all carried that sin with them, but that the concept of these noble families was false as everyone shared that blood.

Well, that's a matter of genetics, I guess. Trace your family tree back ten generations/ 1000 years, and see how many people are related... Or it's just hyperbole, I don't know. Someone witness more knowledge of that stuff will need to answer.

    12 Knights:
    • 4 are dead.
    • Prince Haldrath - Refuses kingship Becomes 1st Azure Dragoon
    • The Brawny Knight - quits and is implied to be the founder and namesake of the Forgotten Knight tavern.
    • 2 others follow Brawny
    • Fortempts, Dzemael, Haillenarte and Durendaire agree to become stewards of the empty Throne until a new worthy king appears.

    My understanding is this:
12 knights and 1 king took from the blood dragon.
    4 died.
    3 left.
1 was Prince and became the first Azure Dragoon
4 then become the High Houses of Ishgard.

What the Holy See used to keep Highborns and lowborns separated was telling people that only the 4 survived of the 12 Knights (with 1 staying as the Azure Dragoon). Thus, they used the "fact" that the highborns (descended from the 4 Houses) were the only ones to be descended from the 12.

What comes up is that we then see:
    Other knights -did- survive.
All 13 had took of the Nidhogg's brood-sister.
Those who are exposed to and drink a dragon's blood will turn. Heretics are considered lowborn, not of the 12. The fact then that they will turn into dragons when exposed means they are descended from the 12. THE CATCH IN THE LIE TOLD TO THE PEOPLE OF ISHGARD.

Sorry about necroing of an old thread, I just hit 57 like the OP too.

It can't be the either of Ishgard is descend from the knights that kill Ratatoskr - hence drank her blood.

What about everyone else that didn't part take in the murder?

Did they flee? Hence aren't part of Ishgard - with the dragons not bothering to purse them since they aren't involved; but mistrust them all the same from that point forth.

Those that didn't flee end up sooner or later marrying into a line that has taken dragon blood thus the whole population is contaminated? (The fact that nobles like to take random mistresses could result in their tainted blood lines flowing into the general population.)
