Yeah, I'm sorry I highly recommend upgrading your GPU. Here is where yours currently stack up:

Yeah, I'm sorry I highly recommend upgrading your GPU. Here is where yours currently stack up:I have a gtx 660 which I have current drivers for. I can play in a zone just fine, but every time I zone, wether it be via teleport , aetherite, return, duty finder, I always freeze on the load screen and crash.
Dx9 I have zero issues. Matter of fact the game runs smoother in dx9. My only guess is my video card is trash. It's only 2 yeas old though. And my rig is 4. Maybe time for new? I play on max setting with 30+ frames in duty. Town it's... Well I won't say

While im sure you could upgrade your card i doubt this is your card since im on gtx 970 and have the exact same problem, id hold off until either Nvidia or SE release an update for it and then choose from there.I have a gtx 660 which I have current drivers for. Quick edit : Has anyone tested dx11 today since the update i saw only something small about dx11 but at this point im willing to take whatever.
One thing I would say for nVidia users that helped me is create a profile in the nVidia control panel for ffxiv_dx11.exe - one doesn't currently exist. On my 980TI I have these options and I have a LOT less crashes (but still not none).
Remember, be sure to click the Add button and navigate to your ffxiv_dx11.exe executable, the built in one is for the DX9 ffxiv.exe dll (maybe that is even causing problems, who knows!)
EVGA GTX 960, Windows 8. My game has been crashing on logout since EA, but I've had 2 and a half in game crashes.
Once was a black screen I couldn't get out of without doing a hard reboot, but Teamspeak was still working while I was black screened. I heard no game sounds.
Another was a full crash to desktop, but the screen went black first, then the game closed. I heard a popping noise in my headset when it happened. No effect on Teamspeak.
And the half one was a sound crash. I heard some popping in my headset (the same noise I heard when I crashed to desktop), but only my game sounds died, and I was able to continue playing the game. I had to restart the game to get my sounds back. It didn't crash to desktop. Again, Teamspeak remained functional per usual.
My headset is a Logitech Clear chat pro USB headset, and it's kind of old now, so maybe it's dying. I don't have any speakers hooked up to my PC right now.
No idea if related, but the sound crash and black screen freeze happened while in The Vault. The complete crash to desktop happened while in Halitali hard mode.

GTX 970 user here too but haven't had this issue unless quitting the game.
Generally, crashing problems were solved when I switched from window to Fullscreen.
Try playing in fullscreen and see if you still have trouble. DX11 seems to just take over the computer when you run it (or at least it does on mine, I can't exit through the window button anymore and I have a fairly beefy processor)
MSI GTX 970 user here.
Game randomly crashes or screen just freezes while game keeps running in the background.
It's completely ruining my experience and slowing my progression.
Gonna fix this shit or what?
I'vr had this happing to be in early access a couple of times (normal in dungeons) but I have not had it happen to me since then, but will comment back if I have any more issues.
Crashing at very specific area in Coerthas Western Highlands in dx11

Coordinates in the pic is 9:15
Just some info:
windows 7 64 bit
i5 proc first gen
ATI Radeon 6800
Software wise I run a very minimalist setup, I only Microsoft Security Essentials and the core system applications
I leave my machine overnight sometimes and never crashes then. I was playing 2 hrs when I started crashing when entering that circled area on the map.
I was also crashing in that area way before I got the main story line quest too.
Update: Seems like almost any lake area I'll eventually crash but the circled is particularly bad

OK reporting back. I haven't had a single crash with DX9 besides the unrelated issue with exiting the game. I turned DX11 on and not 30 mins after, I queued, and crashed upon loading into the dungeon. What really baffles me is my wifes PC is also a AMD GFX using DX11 and she hasn't had a single crash what so ever. Here's our Specs.
Mine(the one that crashes randomly during loading, or when opening UI elements):
OS:Windows 7 64-bit
Mobo:Biostar TA990FXE
CPU:AMD 8150 8-core ~3.6GHz(not OC)
GPU:AMD R9 290X 4GB (Driver Catalyst 14.12)
RAM:16GB
Hers(0 issues sense launch for no identifiable reason)
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Mobo:ASUS M4A79XTD
CPU:AMD Phenom II 4-Core 965 ~3.4GHz
GPU:AMD HD6970 2GB (Driver Catalyst 14.12)
Mem: 8GB
Just for experimental sake I've adjusted my GFX settings to be exactly how hers is setup on the game. Our AMD catalyst settings are identical. What is so confusing is this issue is happening to both AMD and Nvidia users, there's got to be some kind of connection. You guys that are crashing at random times, with the loading and UI, please post your full specs. Maybe we can find some kind of common denominator.
Edit: Even though our GFX settings in the game, and in the Catalyst Control Center are identical. I still crash periodically, I can't really put my finger on it. I'll check out Tawms suggestion, but sense my settings are the same as my wifes, there clearly must be some other issue here.

This has probably been pointed out already, but the cause is Tessellation. At least for me, if not set to Normal, it crashes the game eventually.
I used to crash once every hour or so with every DX11 feature enabled, until I started disabling them one by one. Had a 6 hour session yesterday with everything but Tessellation maxed out, and I didn't crash once. This is on a GTX 780 TI with the latest official NVIDIA drivers as of today.
