"Again, not all games are like WoW and not all sites are like Battle.net. RIFT is the same way as it is here. Even though I have the game and an account (which I had before the game went F2P so I had a sub), I had to register to use the forums. Perhaps Blizzard is the odd one out here? Just a thought!"

That's fine but WoW is the benchmark when it comes to mmorpg. Maybe Square Enix will learn from Blizzard. It seems the odd one out is the highest earner with the most subs consistently for a reason.

I think the cross-platform key issue lies in the PlayStation and PSN licensing. They just went with what they have to keep a rather large portion of their sub base from being alienated.

I agree with that Ayrie. I just don't think you should have to buy the same game up to 4 times to play it on different platforms. I like FF, but I'm not a player that's going to pay whatever Square Enix thinks they can get out of their fanboys.

You have to buy them for PS versions. Now tell me if this makes sense, if you are using Steam you have to re buy the pc version to play on non steam pc version.

Go play WoW then maybe? Seriously, no one cares so either go pay for a mac copy if you must play on mac or don't. People are also whining about "needing" to buy a separate copy on console and PC which you don't HAVE TO HAVE... you want to have it. WoW doesn't even have the ability to play on console so it's a totally different animal in this regard (NEWS FLASH: They're NOT the same thing!).

It's a luxury to have the ability to play the game on multiple platforms and if you want it, buy it or don't but either way stop incessantly posting about it on the forums because it isn't going to change a thing. /endrant

Thanks for that. I realize their not the same thing. Just thought Square Enix might care that they are losing a sub due to this issue and potentially more from people that might feel the same way. I agree though, I will be returning to warcraft where I can play in different rooms of my house without having to lug my PC around or instead paying another $60. just so I can then spend $15 a month for the luxury of playing a game I already paid for.

WoW's sub numbers are dropping pretty hard and will continue unless they start fixing things.
So if they learn anything hope it's not what to do.

If you're leaving solely due to this then I hate to be the one to tell you but you were never the customer they were looking for anyway. It IS in fact a luxury and if you want it, pay for it or don't pay for it. That's how it works in the real world where people are working hard to make games and make them for different platforms. Put up (the money) or shut up... it's that simple.

Best of luck to you in going back to play WoW. I hope it's everything you want it to be but know it's not, which is most likely why you left it for FFXIV in the first place.

Not sure if this has been said but my wife has an iMac and she is using bootcamp with Windows 7 to play FF14. Works like a charm although it doesn't push the graphics all that well. I'm saving up to build her a computer.

Caecalius, you're not getting gouged for the Mac client. The price is $60 because it contains licenses for both ARR and Heavensward; it's the same price as the PC combined client. If you take out the cost of one month's subscription ($15), the final cost is $45. I think you've realized the issue is that Square charges a license per platform, which they did for FFXI. You keep mentioning Blizzard and WoW, but they're not really comparable. SE supports 4 platforms, not 2, and they will take a loss on some platforms, so charging per platform is a way to recoup those costs.

As for the other people in this thread, gaming on a Mac is more than feasible. iMacs and Macbooks are the only *top computers that have seen significant growth in the past few quarters, and in terms of performance, my machine has an Intel i7 with an 4Gb Nvidia card, it's more than up to the task of any game. There are reasons why Blizzard made all of their games available for OSX, why Guild War 2 has an OSX client, why Rift has an OSX client, etc, and why more Steam games have an OSX pot to them.
