Personally I've always thought Everquest would be the "benchmark of MMORPGs" and I didn't even play that game but I felt it's what really kicked off the genre before others came along and went further with it.I'm going to tell you why you're wrong.
WoW's subs have been dropping hardcore in recent months, starting with Draenar's release.
Guess where most of those dropped subs are going to? You guessed it; FF14.
In my opinion, WoW was never the benchmark. The benchmark (in my opinion) being Ragnarok Online before the whole Renewal garbage.
While people will disagree with me; the entire game (WoW) rubs me the wrong way and I'm a hardcore fantasy/science fiction fan when it comes to video games. I don't feel invested in its world or sympathetic to any of it.
That said, WoW's an outdated system that's constantly getting a facelift. No offense, I'm glad it's finally starting to kick the bucket because it's honestly outlived its stay.
Can't you just run it in Boot Camp anyway?
That's why I said in my opinion. Everyone's going to have a different idea on what the "benchmark" is. Some'll say WoW, others'll say everquest. You get the idea.
My point is that WoW isn't the first "popular" MMO and it certainly (and obviously) won't be the last.

I'm sorry OP that Windows trolls decided to pervert your thread. I just bought and installed FFXIV for OS X... $100 to play Heavensward on my PC and Mac (sheesh). Square is going against the grain when it comes to releasing software for multiple operating systems. It's more strange considering there is no steam version for the Mac. It's hard to believe Sony can dictate the terms of how software is released outside of their platform. Nobody expects not to pay for a license when you're coming from PS3 and going to PS4. It's Sony's platform, and they want a slice of everything released on their platform. Windows is another story. There are no licensing issues. You don't need permission from Microsoft to release software on Windows. And if you're releasing on Mac and Linux, you ship installers on the same disc or offer a digital download for the platform. That's the story. It's been like that for a while.
Don't get the mac version yet. It's a major disappointment, and unplayable at the moment.
Lol you got gauged when you bought a mac, not when you bought FF. Gg get wrecked
You don't think that was rude? Some of us like mac osx, and apple computers are very nice in both function and design. Not to mention, when you own other Apple devices then they work together very well. I can even send a text message from my iMac. I think you need to accept that different people have different values.
instead of saying you suck for getting a mac (Honestly i love macs i have one at work, great machine), just bootcamp, wait until they fix the mac version and if you still like the game and the client work as intended then buy the licence. (if you want)
Play it in bootcamp and wait for the best.
Macs are just not for gaming. Macs are... well, for design and basic functions. I personally hate them, but they aren't "bad" computers. Personally, I prefer Linux of the three, but never would I ever think of gaming on a Linux. I know better.
We have preferences... you know, like races and classes. But would you go into a dungeon with a full party of white mages, thinking you'd clear it? Macs are not made for gaming. You buy it knowing that. Therefore, if you try to make it work and it fails, don't blame the game.
Unless it's unplayable, like currently. Then you complain. But if you buy a mac for gaming, you are buying the inferior system of the available systems.
