Mac client needs to be reborn..? :(

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if I should be posting this here or trying to go directly through support. I have been playing ARR for about a month using my Mac in Boot Camp. A friend got me hooked with the promise of the upcoming Mac client, and this morning I eagerly downloaded the DMG file (huge!), downloaded the patch (also huge!) and then was sorely disappointed to find that the Mac client itself was a laggy mess, even with the settings bottomed out and my resolution reduced to almost nothing.

My machine is NOT a small fry. It's a year or two old now, but it's an i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB of ram and dedicated nvidia graphics (2GB). The Windows client performs flawlessly on this machine. The Mac client is barely better than when I attempted to run the Windows client through Parallels. I would argue that it is almost unplayable.

I am well aware that OS X is not as well optimized for gaming as Windows is, but this is embarrassingly bad, and I can't help but wonder if this is the reason a Heavensward benchmark was not made available for Macs. Is the Mac client just the Windows client wrapped in a virtualization layer?

At this point I either need assurances that the Mac client is going to be HEAVILY optimized in the coming weeks, or I need a refund on my Mac client so I can purchase the Windows version of Heavensward.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm just terribly disappointed this morning.

If you get a different result, please help me figure out what's wrong with my setup!

Problem is that the Mac client is just wrapperd in an emulator of windows DLL and also OpenGL do not help by any stretch, You will have to wait until Vulkan for gaming decently on Mac,

Kind of sad that we're paying full price for an inefficient wrapper. Hoping support can refund me so I can just go back to playing in Boot Camp.

Well, I knew that the performance would be going to take a hit, but I didn't expect it to be that severe. I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro (GT750M model) and while FFXIV runs with about 50-60 FPS via Bootcamp/Windows on the preset "Laptop (normal)" on 1680x1050, it barely runs with 20 FPS in the same zones with the same presets via Mac OS X.

I'm sorry, but this is not acceptable. Unless there is a major bug/glitch/whatever makes it run that bad, I would like to have the license for Mac removed from my account for a refund.

Thank you for pointing that out, Tatsuo. It's nice to know I'm not the only one having issues with the mac client.

Mac is good computer. I have one I use only for patients. Security was a big point in buying it.
But Apple has not yet put out a dedicated gamer (or graphics ) machine that the PC market did.

I've had dell or Alienware. Alienware is putting out a nice 13" for $899. I have that because the
Large 18mx is not as portable.
I know Alienware is trying to focus on the entry gamer laptops for a reasonable price.

Be nice if Apple did too. And a price that is reasonable. Right now you have to be careful and make sure your computer
Will handle what you need. There are Apple forums. Just google that. Helpful people and they usually
help people to buy or upgrade when needed.

I'm sorry, what? My late 2013 iMac has a NVIDIAGeForceGTX780M 4GB GDDR5 for a graphics card, and Apple is about to switch to Metal on OSX. The issue has nothing to do with Apple, it has to do with using Transgaming to build the client as opposed to building a native client.
