Or they could have at least provided us with a benchmark program. The Mac client clearly needed one a lot more than the Windows version.

You're not kidding there. They really needed a benchmark for the mac version. I wouldn't have ordered one if I had known how poorly it would run.

So disappointing. I can't even launch the updater.
Managed to download the mac client but when i try to launch it it just says its verifying then nothing at all.....? checked and there is an active process for FFXIV but nothing comes up at all.
Tried killing it then relaunching but nothing.
Judging by what everyone is saying its not playable even if i do manage to get the game to launch

What are you playing at SE???

I'm all for the native play with mac and having your own software to run like that. I get it. But if you get 60fps with bootcamp why bother at this point? I mean yea mac was coming but we had no proof as of yet how it would perform. I'm from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" crowd. Still a mac running natively would normally have been a dream. BTW I don't even get 60fps myself constant on windows but I do at least get 30+ , normally around 50+ even in hunts. Tell the truth that feels plenty enough for me w/o the 60fps. I wish you guys well , they should at least give you a copy of the windows license instead then. Good Luck.

I have the windows version, but since i don't have a windows laptop, the MAC version appealed to me as i was only boot camping windows for FFXIV.
Removing the windows partition was something i had wanted to do for a while but was holding off because of FF....

Some recognition by SE that they are aware of this issue would be nice.
People have paid money for a sub-standard product by the looks of it.

Cause we don't want to boot into Windows to play. I have stuff that I want to do in OS X only, and I don't want that interrupted because I have boot into Windows. Blizzard spent the time and energy to code a native WoW OS X client, Square...

What resolution are you guys playing at? Rather, what resolution does the client use by default?

The game will definitely choke on most Macs (even on Windows) if you try running it at the native Retina resolution of 2880x1800, so you'll want to make sure you're setting your client to use a resolution of ~1900x1200. My download isn't complete, so I can't test just yet :\

If there are no performance workarounds, Square Enix will be forced to issue refunds. There is a valid assumption by the community that the Mac client should suffer no more than ~20% performance penalty compared to Bootcamp Windows. If the performance hit is more than 20%, then SQEX has to admit that the client is next to useless.

They really should have spent the past 2 years creating an OpenGL rendering mode within their 3D engine instead of just wrapping it with WINE

Not running at retina. The game first opens in windowed mode, which I assume was 800 by 600 (originally set to custom). It didn't run well that well - 40 - 50 FPS, but it's sluggish. The UI is horribly cramped. Then I went full screen 1600 by 1050, and I get 21 fps outside of city.

Pretty much this for me too. Anything I would do for both my day job or my side job are done in OS X so I was interested in playing natively so that on slow days at work (like today when I'm on these forums xD) I could be on FF at least crafting or running around for easy quests.

Maybe someday they'll get it straight but based on what people are saying for now I'll definitely be avoiding shelling out money for an unusable product.

Well the reality that the fault is of multiple company, from SE because they dint wrote a native client, from apple because they could have pushed their graphics API development enough (even tough OpenGL is opensource and not apple owned), From transgaming for the poor optimisation done with the client.
