Pretty much this for me too. Anything I would do for both my day job or my side job are done in OS X so I was interested in playing natively so that on slow days at work (like today when I'm on these forums xD) I could be on FF at least crafting or running around for easy quests.
Maybe someday they'll get it straight but based on what people are saying for now I'll definitely be avoiding shelling out money for an unusable product.
お楽しみにしてください。
So I'm getting about 10-15ish frames per second in the Mac client at 1680x1050.
Just out of curiosity, I started it up in Parallels (full VM, running Windows 8.1) and was able to get around 30-35 fps at 1920x1200.
This is absurd!![]()
Waiting on chat support now... 103 in the queue currently.![]()
Just adding my voice here. Mid 2014 Retina - i7, 16GB RAM with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB. Settings turned way down and resolution set down to 1680x1050 and can barely break 20fps... drops below 10 if much is going on.
I tried to have realistic expectations for this, especially after hearing it was wrapper - but the performance hit verses how well I could run it in bootcamp is just not acceptable. I will wait a little for some kind of response from SE on why they felt it was acceptable to sell us this and what their plans are to improve it - otherwise I will be pursuing a refund as well. Very disappointing and frustrating.
I waited in the chat support queue for 2 hours, finally got to #1 and then received this:

That sucks. I wouldn't suggest going through that again. There are enough people complaining on the boards that SE has to acknowledge there's an issue.
Bumping this thread in hopes it will replace the other mac client thread that has filled up with "mac vs. pc" rhetoric that isn't relevant to SE deciding to sell a product that doesn't deliver.
It really is disappointing that FFXIV doesn't work even as well as it works in Parallels.
I don't play WoW, but I love how Diablo 3 works great out of the box on both Mac and Windows!!
I wonder whether Transgaming pulled a fast one on Square Enix and then nobody at the mothership ever heard of WINE or actually tested it out to discover how embarrassingly awful the "product" actually is.
p.s. Windows trolls and idiots: nothing to see here, move along. We get that it works in Windows, and that it also works fine on a Mac when you run Windows using Boot Camp. We might even own Windows PCs as well. We still like OS X and hardware like the MacBook Pro, and we would like a real version of FFXIV that actually works well, kind of like what Blizzard delivers for their games. Unfortunately the current FFXIV client is nowhere near SE's usual standards of quality or performance.
