Seems Zenaku beat me to it, but Tanaka had no choice in when the game was to be released.
One thing I liked about Tanaka is we at least knew his vision and what he wanted to do (And he had a lot of good ideas which he wasn't allowed to do)
I currently know nothing about Yoshi-P's vision in how he wants this game =/

Necromancer is virtually non-existant in the FF mythos except in villainous role (FF:T for instance).

It doesn't fit with the FF lore at all to have necromancer heroes.

Well, given his constant back-and-forth communication with the FFXIV player community, I'd say his vision is to give the players whatever they happen to be clamoring for at the moment... (server issues withstanding).

I'd take that as a warning to be very careful what you ask for.

Its good to see that there are others that like this idea as well. I've always been a big fan of the traditional FF summons, but the zodiac espers/totema have fantastic concepts that haven't been explored nearly enough.

As I stated in another post. The use of FF final bosses for espers in FFXII was a fantastic idea. I think you could even pull from more recent games and bring in summoned versions of Jenova, Greiver, Necron, Sin, and even Promathia, Shadowlord, or Lilith Ascendent.

And the Zodiac Deities are the guardians in this game so it would work.

Ah, I never played FFV:A so I stand corrected

Interesting that they called the job 'Necromancer' though. Instead of animating the dead (which is the typical approach to necromancy in gaming), it was more of a black magic/occult type of job with demon summoning and forbidden spells.

Warlock seems like a more appropriate name to me for that job, but w/e...

I like the idea, I personally would love to see the SMN class be versatile and able to switch roles. Want to play a tank, well summon a tank pet which will provoke and hold hate, want to be a DD, summon a DD mob, like above.

I think with several summons the summoner could fill several roles within a party. There will need to be balance, but SE can work out those details.

All in all, good thoughts, I'll be excited to get my hands on some new classes soon.

The Zodiac Dieties from Ivalice (FFTactics, 12, TA, TA2) are called Scions. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Scion
They were given that name in FF Tactics Advance 2.

although i would miss the classic summons, i would not at all be opposed to new ones. in fact FFXII summons were probably my favorite. even the lore behind them was amazing!!

to keep close to "traditional" smn elements...

Id like to only see summoner as a support/damage role... not healer or tank.

In past titles... you summoned you avatar it came out...it either blasted the target...or gave everyone a nice buff.

so lets aim for that...but no ifrit's or shivas this time.

Do either the IVALICE summons....old hardly used summons (Cacatar, cait sith, etc) or make up completely new ones!

This fits the lore...and would royally piss off the primals!

Ya know, I was just thinking a xi style summoner would be hell to pull off with the way actions are set currently on the action bar.
