I thought the way they changed it Crit chance also increases Crit damage. So wouldn't any increase to crit chance increase your crit damage?

No because the buffs that give crit (Internal Release, Life Surge, Battle Litany, ect.) do not increase your Critical Stat, they just give a flat chance buff. The extra damage from crits is based off your crit stat. This is the same reason why they changed Fey Light/Glow from a "Skillspeed/Spellspeed" buff to a "3% ATTACK speed" instead; its so the base stats are not being changed in your character menu. So basically, the only way to take advantage of the new bonus damage from critical hits is to increase your base critical stat, and atm that means food and equipment.

Another way you could look at it to help dissuade yourself is "My Full Thrust crits normally for XXXX damage. If Life Surge is 100% crit, does my crit Life-Surged Full Thrust now deal twice as much damage as if it were to crit without Life Surge?" The answer should be no otherwise you will see Life-Surged Full Thrusts reaching 6-7k damage! If you doubt me go and try it out =)
