Sorry if this has been asked or if I missed it somewhere in the game. But does it matter if the materials used in the construction of airships is hq or nq? Have been using hq but if I can get by with nq that would be fantastic.

So far there hasnt been any evidence to suggest that it matters. One thing we can pretty mch confirm is that it wont effect the finalized component...regardless of high quality or not it will always be the same exact item.
sounds like a bug
I can confirm that using hq will increase the production towards the next step. Using hq in step 1 may result in having some of your materials carry over to the second step and second to third. What I don't know yet is whether or not hq in the final step can result in hq airship parts.
So I would stick to hq in the early steps, but the last step it probably isn't important.
I'm assuming turning in HQs increases the workshop Quality, which increases the chance for Excellent/Outstanding Progress which reduces the quantity you need to turn in for following steps, which is really quite awesome.
However, so far I haven't seen this to be the case. I've turned in full HQ materials and had Regular Progress, and I've turned in full NQ materials, gotten to 80/100 Quality, and gotten Excellent Progress. From what I've seen HQ materials don't have a particularly big impact on Quality, they simply reward the person who turned them in with more EXP. Could just be I got unlucky, and lucky, but so far I've not been incline to bother with turning in HQs. If anything I think I've noticed Quality going up more with different people turning items in, rather than soloing it, but I'd have to do more testing to confirm that.
