Pretty sure it is just "AI that don't think". Or have you never had an opponent place the last card in a tied match so that the weakest number was exposed, rather than the strongest number, thereby throwing the match? I know that's how I've won most of MY matches against difficult opponents.

Horrendous AI is no excuse for shackling the player with lame restrictions.

And furthermore, why do deck restrictions exist when fighting human opponents? What is the excuse to having 2 human players battle with 3-star decks rather than 5-star decks?

Restrictions for the sake of restrictions.

    Edit:
Just to humor anyone that says Triple Triad is great the way it is, I just checked the tournament board for my server. 3 players are in the top 20 this week with 0 wins. Half of the top 20 players have less than a 50% win rate.

There is no logic to the Triple Triad system in this game, no justification for the restrictions and rules. The drop rate is bad, the AI is bad, the timed NPCs are bad, and the rewards are bad. Whoever is in charge of this system clearly doesn't care.

    Edit Edit:
Thinking about LoV and whether or not it goes live with 150 MGP reward for winning a match.
So a five minute match, according to the video, ended with 150 MGP being won. Let's assume a loss gives half of that. Now, the BIG TICKET MGP item is the Fenrir mount, so let's imagine that is the ultimate goal for people playing in the Gold Saucer. How long does it take to get your Fenrir mount?
I think it's fair to say that playing against human players, your win/loss ratio would be 50/50 on average. So one loss, one win = 225 MGP for two games.

1,000,000 MGP / 225 MGP x 2 matches = about 8900 matches. If each match average at 5 minutes, that is 30 consecutive days of nothing but LoV, just to earn the top prize at the Gold Saucer. This ignores every other prize, every other form of "reward" such as chocobo food, breeding licenses, triple triad card packs, and other stuff you might buy for the sake of playing other Gold Saucer games. You could say "but there are other ways of earning MGP more efficently" but there is no denying that a terrible reward is a great way to kill fun before it can begin. Why is the best MGP earner for me, the mini-cactpot, the most boring "game" in the gold saucer?

At what point in the planning phase is someone supposed to say "Hey, does this make sense?". Because they always push these things live, and leave the common sense up to the players. The gold saucer has it the worst. Literally every number involved in the Gold Saucer has been tweaked since launch, as the devs realized things weren't rewarding enough, and it was sapping the fun out of their ideas. 3.1 is supposed to buff the rewards of the gold saucer even further, but if that live stream demo of LoV is any evidence, the devs still fail to understand the core problem when designing some of these things.
