Level cap increase with HW?

Just by buying HW will that increase the level cap or do you need to get into Ishgard. Say as if you didn't finish the MSQ 2.0, will the cap be increased or do you need to finish the MSQ? Not looking for a debate on gated content just the increase in level.

You just need the expansion to get the level cap increase. You don't have to have the msq completed up to 2.55 to get the lvl increase or access to the Au Ra race.

I had a similar question, do you actually have to have Heavensward in order to increase in level? Or will ARR also get to level to 60? I only ask because since the content is gated by story and I am so far behind there was no reason to rush out and buy HW yet, not to mention my birthday is the 25 hint hint.. hoping to just get it then anyways.

You'll need to finish the main story quest in ARR first i believe. Even if you have Heavensward installed.

It's worth noting that level 52+ skills are learned in Ishgard. While you can happily progress to 60, you won't see much benefit until you can run uncapped content and claim new skills in Ishgard.

I'm confused on what you mean learned in Ishgard as my 52 and 54 BLM skills were learned right in Uldah from my Job NPC.

Need to have the expansion installed to get experience beyond 50. I started playing again on Friday after over half a year. I was still on 2.4 of the story quests and wasn't receiving any exp until after I activated/installed the expansion.
