Healing spells landing on me instead of my target

I am leveling astro atm (lvl 56) and after spamming Aery for a while I started noticing here and there some healing spells not landing on my targets. It's just a single spell, randomly between my casts I cannot recreate it, I haven't found any modifier key that would cast spells on me rather than targets. I am not using any macros. Just wanted to know if anyone else noticed this?

I've had this happen a couple times. I know what you mean by tough to re-create. It almost feels like you dropped off your target but when I check I'm still on the tank or whoever.

Yep exactly, sometimes I would run whole dungeon without this happening, next time it will happen twice in one run. A bit annoying since I tend to play "lets see how low the tank can go without dying" while I dps, and then bring them up with Essential Dignity.

I like to hold down my left mouse button majority of the time to control my camera and have noticed that occasionally depending on where my mouse cursor actually is, that can cause it to change my target or clear it completely. Happens fairly rarely, though if you are saying that your target is not actually changing... that sounds like a bug.

This happens regardless of the healer you play.

There's three reasons for it:
1) Lag. The most obvious but the easiest to anticipate. Just make sure that the party member is highlighted before pressing any key
2) Target moved out of range - Usually only a problem in dungeons and large arenas. This is generally why I use the mouse to change healing targets, if you can't click, you can't target.
3) Target moved out of line-of-sight - This is probably more like what you experience. The best example of being able to recreate this is with a Scholar. Tell the pet to stay and then walk behind objects and keep casting Psysick on it until one lands on you.

At any rate it's not a bug, it's usually a combination of lag and line-of sight. WP-hard's staircase areas are examples of where this would usually happen. Most other dungeons it rarely happens, and usually the Tank's are more aware of the line-of-sight requirement.

I noticed this a few times in the vault as WHM. I wrote it off as being tired. Will keep my eyes open for it more though.

I have this happen all the time on my SCH but I have yet to have it happen on my AST. I dunno what causes it but it seems like whenever I swapped targets really fast or used a global cooldown that affects me (like aetherflow or something) the next skill will be targetting me and not my target.

Never had it happen on macro-ed skills so I guess this for case of non-macro?

Just a guess, but you may have been a little too aggressive with target swapping and casting at the same time. You started your heal a split-second before the swap, when normally you do it a split-second after. From your point of view you did it 'the same as always' and it feels very jarring to see your cast 'miss', but in fact you mistimed things.

It's an easy mistake to make when you're used to swap-and-cast by muscle memory. I'll do it more often when I'm tired.

It's really not new, unfortunately. Usually it's from targeting the person and then hitting the button within an unnoticable second of each other, or at the same time. I'm prone to it when there's a lot going on and chaos on HP bars - one hand doesn't keep up with the other or both hands aren't keeping up with what my brain is telling them to do..... or lag is keeping it from doing any good.

I've noticed, since Heavensward, that some of my heals just go -no where- (rare, thankfully). The cure didn't even land on myself (as usually happens now and then) and no graphic or gained HP on the person I casted on. It just..... went nowhere. Cast bar, makes the casted animation and then.......... blank. Had this happen in Aery and T5 just before maint (5 and a half-manning, solo healing and solo tanking T5 and then again in a hurried, chain-pulling run in Aery *Twitch* Not good for heals to not go through).
It wasn't out of range or line of sight - the receiver and I were stationary - as well as able to receive a follow-up cure. Probably lag. My 'blank' cast incidents may also be a graphical glitch - I noticed that some NPCs 'disappear' when you take off but were there when you were on land. I also noticed some of my Holys not hitting, even though I'm practically on top of the mob I'm trying to stun. >_> No damage given, no animation reaction to being hit and no stun. I might as well have been 100 yalms away when I holy'd.
