    Afraid for a friend...

So I came over here and brought a friend of mine that I've played with for 10 years.

I've tried to get him into a few other MMOs as well, after he'd quit EQ2 after 7 years.

He likes this one.. but he's getting road blocked by solo duties that are just absolutely bloody wrecking his noskill arse.

Right now, he's on the quest that has the siren summoning dead men on the beach.. level 42 main scenario. Can't beat it. He's level 44. Doesn't have the situational awareness to keep an eye on the bubbles, not stand in stuff, *and* keep an eye on his own health.

And the quests just get worse from here.

I just finished one in a basement for the MSQ in Ishgard.. 5 mobs. Caster, healer, three melee. If I wasn't on a healer I would have gotten *wrecked* and you can't single them off. You can't use a chocobo.

How the hell are people that aren't awesome or overgeared supposed to handle this? He outright left ESO over the guild quests, I couldn't help with those, and he's over in Europe. I'd just do these things FOR him if I could, but I can't.

    Halp?

Don't the single person instances in the MSQ start to give you an echo buff if you fail them a couple times? With that plus some nice crafted gear your friend should be able to get through.

The game really does fall upon your situational awareness and reaction timing(along with memorization). If any of these are lacking, you're not going to get too far in the game. You can tell him what to expect, try to aid him and everything. But it will ultimately come down to his own skill level.

Even with gear, no. Basically he needs to be able to avoid ground effects and face tank it. DRG. He can't take the hits. He's got mobility issues in his hands too so that's not helping.

Nope. I think I've seen a grand total of one of them give Echo, and it wasn't a MSQ quest I failed at, but one of the Conjurer quests(wasn't watching my HP bar).

Annnd there lies the problem. If he lived closer I'd go over there and do it *for* him. He does well enough in group content and one on one mobs, but the quest I just got finished with slammed two paladin, one dragoon, an arcanist and conjurer all at once, and there was *no* splitting them up.

Stuff like this just makes me want to smack someone. The hell are they thinking? And I'm in stuff off the vendors. We both started about a month and a half ago, and aren't kitted to the teeth in Dreadwyrm. Stuff's got an arseload of HP too.

A DRG can easily clear the solo quests without needing to be overgeared or overleveled. We're the tankiest melee class and we can kite (with Piercing Talon) when needed, plus we have access to defensive (Foresight, Featherfoot) and healing (Second Wind, Bloodbath) crossclass skills.

If he doesn't have the situational awareness to not stand in stuff, then I'm afraid DRG is not the class for him, as it requires high amounts of dodging and quick reflexes.

He may want to level another class for solo stuff. I love summoner. Scholar is also great for soloing - it takes longer to kill stuff but the fairy takes most of the random aggro so you just have to worry about her staying alive.
Otherwise the quests should start giving echo buffs after failing enough times in a row...
Also it helps to temporarily get a whm in the party to cast stoneskin and protect, then drop.

I would suggest having him watch a youtube video on the quest with someone doing it as the same class. Sometimes watching someone do it can help you see where you are going wrong. I had trouble with the siren quest too, so I feel his pain. It took me more times than I care to think about to get past it.

The thing is those mechanics are not hard, especially in comparison to Garuda story and all endgame dungeons. If they dumb it down people get bored and quit. He'll have to practice those mechanics until he can execute them well enough to clear it.

At level 45 he will get his af gear, which is an enormous upgrade and help with the later leveling content.

The Echo buff indeed does activate if you fail a main story solo duty, however it seems to be somewhat inconsistent as to how quickly it activates - in the past I've seen it activate after failing a duty only once, but mostly it seems to only activate after failing the duty two to three times in a row. In any event, the Echo buff does indeed appear in solo duties and is a major help to those who have been having trouble passing them
