    Does anybody know were this Materia comes from?

    From lots of different high level gear when it's turned into Materia. It's very sought after so it'll be very expensive in the wards when you see it up.

    what gear does it come from is what I am trying to find out. Plate gear does not seem to give it so far... I am guessing maybe a 48 plus melee weapon will give this materia?

    Each item can convert into any number of materia. Try breakind down different pieces of mage gear. I personally have got it from an Electrum Ring and a Tarred Voyager's Belt. But you're better off just trying randomly.

    Pretty sure there are other gear that produces, and isn't it sometimes random on what materia one item makes? (not sure)

    Each item in the game has a number of materia that it can turn into. It's all RNG from there.

    But is there anything to control the rank of the materia produced? I got a bunch of rank II materia from level 44-46 items...
    I was banking on getting at least rank III and some rank IV's but ended up with a junk pile.

    Nope. It's random. Nothing you can do about it but spiritbond more gear and then turn it into materia and keep your hopes up. Then buy more gear, spiritbond it, and turn it into materia.

    The devs have posted that the materia is not random so please post what gear you are getting it from please
