Marik was starting to feel more run down than usual... he felt weak, even more weak then having his blessing of light sealed away from him. After the escape from Ul'dah and avoiding capture for the framed assassination of Nanamo Ul Namo, Marik wasn't quite sure how he could continue on.. both mentally and now... physically.
He had stopped by talking to Yugiri the next day before their big trip to Ishgard, wondering if she had any Doman remedies that might fix his aliments. Yugiri was quite perplexed to see the Warrior of Light in such an ill state. Finally an echo vision appeared before Marik, but this one... was different, this one was about himself... about his home in Vana'diel! He saw fast glimpses of all his friends, family, and loved ones back in that world. Why was he seeing all this all of a sudden? He had finally moved forward with his new life in Eorzea, in Hydaelyn.
Oh why did his new abilities torment him so! But then all went blank, and his body started to rack over with even more pain! And after awaking, he could not believe his very eyes...
...his body was dissipating before his very eyes! Bits and pieces falling apart as if it was just a form of aether going back into the lifestream. What was Marik going to do?! Yugiri looked upon Marik for what seemed quite some time, before she seemed to have made up her mind. She alerted Marik of how she knew how to fix this, but it would be quite taxing and might feel rather unpleasant in the best of terms... but she didn't see how he had a choice.
Marik agreed to what ever Yugiri's plan was, and quickly she vanished, into parts unknown. Later that night in the waning hours of dusk, Yugiri returned with a few of her fellow Domans, and a two large satchels. One could fit an entire Hume... er Hyur into one of them, maybe two Hyurs! But.. the other bag was much smaller and contained a grimoire and herbs, potions, and flowers of sorts. Undoing the ropes to the larger satchel unleashed a body... Marik's eyes weren't sure what he was seeing! Did Yugiri just commit mur... but she quickly dispelled any doubt in the Warrior of Lights head, by explaining this was a man already dead when she found him, and was actually a man quite close to her and would want for his body to be made useful even after death.
Quickly Yugiri began preparations for what ever she was about to do, asking Marik to lie flat on the ground beside her once companion. After drawing some runes and symbols across the ground and around the two bodies on the floor, she gave Marik some sort of bottle containing gods knows what! He swiftly drank it, feeling is life slipping further away until all went black! Marik's mind floated about, his soul no longer bound to his dying body... and suddenly.. there was heavy breathing! Marik inhaled quickly, then exhaled. He was breathing again! And the pain was gone... he staggered some what, till he was on his feet. But it wasn't his feet, or wasn't his old feet! He quickly looked into a near by mirror to see his entire body had been changed!
No longer did the body or his body lie on the floor, but some how been fused into one body. He looked just like Yugiri, only a male version of Yugiri. He felt his new scales, wiggled around his new tail... a commodity that he always fancied wanting to have one of his own... and looked into his new eyes. He was still Marik! Still the same Scion, Warrior of Light, and friend. Just his outward appearance was different... that and the fact he was thankfully no longer dying.
Yugiri explained thoroughly that her people, both the Raen's and Doman's had ancient ritual they could preform in times of great desperation, but at a hefty price! For it called for a sacrifice of a body in order to fuse a dying body together with it. Thankfully and yet unfortunately one of Yugiri's close comrades had recently passed away, and yet was a blessing in disguise for the fading Warrior of Light. Yugiri allowed Marik some quick privacy to get accustomed to his new body, as well as alerting their friends of what had just transpired, and find more suitable clothing. So thankful was Marik to be a skilled craftsman!
Marik took in all that happened, and was grateful for the remaining friends he still had close to him, and glad to still be alive in his Eorzea, his home. The memories of the past are just that.. memories. Closely settling into his heart, his mind clear and sharp for the present and future tasks at hand! Onward to Ishgard!
